Post subject:  Hardware or configuration suggestions for dvd problems

I am having problems with a new R5B7 install. Two problems actually. Here is the hardware configuration I am using.

Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard (nforce2 chipset)
Athlon XP 1500 Processor
2 - 512MB Samsung PC2700 DDR ram
Seagate 160GB Ultra ATA100 7200RPM 8MB Cache HDD
Pioneer DVR-111DBK DVD-R Drive
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR150 Model 1045 Tuner Card
GeforceFX5200 Video Card

The install goes flawlessly but then when I put in a DVD it won't play or encode. It just closes with no error. I tried running xine from a shell to see error messages. Here is what I get.

libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Attempting to use device /dev/hda1 mounted on / for CSS authentication
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO failed
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP failed
libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Could not open input: No medium found
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
xiTK received SIGSEGV signal, RIP.
Aborted

Is there a simple solution to this? I have tried playing with the settings but nothing seems to work. The drive is fine because I am able to play or rip CD's.

My other problem is that I can't get the remote to work. I have searched here, the wiki, the official lirc website, and mythtv websites and and spent several hours trying to edit files and testing different configurations but no luck.

I am looking for suggestions on what will be the simplest solution. I am not opposed to swapping out hardware if need be, especially if that will be the easiest solution. Actually that is what I would prefer unless there are some simple edits I can make to get this working. I just don't want to spend hours configuring and troubleshooting. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Search for the words "lawyer" and/or "DMCA" in the forums.

Ok, I understand the problem now with the DVD's. Sounds like that is a problem regardless of the hardware. What about the PVR150 remote though? Any suggestions?

For basic functionality run:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh

You want to select type 16 (hauppauge) and sub type c (silver) if it's the "bulgy ended" or "dog bone shaped" remote with 4 colored buttons in a row at the bottom.

Make sure you have the sensor dongle plugged into the right socket on the card (the black one at the very bottom, not the silver one), that it's well seated, and that you have a clear line of sight between the remote and the "eye" of the sensor head on the dongle.

Finally you may want to enhance your key mappings to work with xine as well as mythtv. Search for info on the files /etc/lirc/lircd.conf and /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc. Basically, the first one maps from IR codes to standard symbolic names for the buttons, and the second one uses those symbolic names to assign functions within applications. There are lots of examples around here of customized mappings for xine.
