Post subject: | Updating time zone for DST |
Here in the state of Indiana, most counties will be implementing DST on April 2 for the first time since 1970. I originally figured this would be a simple change to the Eastern Time zone in my configs. However, I've been reading some articles that say changing the time zone may alter older files times, causing incorrect times to appear on those files. My concern is that my old Myth recordings may become out of sync with the database when I change the time zone. One article suggested changing the current Indiana time zone so that DST is implemented from April 2, 2006 forward. This requires an update to the reference files for time zones. Here's a link to a site explaining the issues for UNIX based systems. https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Resources/KnowledgeBase/Docs/20060128100824 I'm using NTP to keep my time synchronized. So the big question is, should I just change the time zone on my Myth sytems to EST with DST, or alter the current time zone to allow DST in the future? ![]() |

Update: I just changed the time zone to EDT and it appears to have the correct time now. However, I noticed that while the program guide shows the correct time, the listings are all an hour behind. I used tzsetup to change the time zone. Is there a setting for the program guide that I need to change also? It's been a while since I setup my backend and I can't remember if zap2it requires time zone info. ![]() |

I'm not sure if this is the solution but we went through a similar issue here in Australia a couple of weeks ago where DST started at a different date to usual. I updated the timezone but the listings that had been grabbed before the update were set to the times before the update took place. Running mythfilldatabase fixed it. |

I'll have to try that when I get home later. Will it automatically overwrite the existing listings or is there a mythfilldatabase option I need to set to force a download of all listings? Thanks |

Running mythfilldatabase did the trick, but I had to use an option to overwrite the data for today. ![]() Code: mythfilldatabase --refresh-today
When I ran mythfilldatabase without any flags, it didn't update the program times. The --help flag didn't seem to list an option to refresh all data. Is there an option that can do this? |

Run mythtv-setup and say no to the first question and yes to the second (I think) which will nuke your channels. Then reenter your info (zap2it l/p) and grab the listing again. That may be the nuclear option; others in here may know a more gentle way to do it but what I've outlined should work. |
