Hi Everyone, I've been using knoppmyth R5F1 for the past few months and I've had an ongoing issue with the front end crashing frequently. This happens when watching SDTV recordings that come off of my DCT-6200 via firewire. It also only happens with FF or Rewinding the video, to go past a commerical for example. I also suspect it might happen due to errors in the ts stream from when the local operator inserts their own commericals, but I don't know that for sure.

Here is what I see on the console when it crashes, 95% of the time:

[mpegvideo_xvmc @ 0xb72644a8]invalid mb type in P Frame at 7 17

mythfrontend: xvmcvideo.c:187: XVMC_decode_mb: Assertion `render->filled_mv_blocks_num <= render->total_number_of_mv_blocks' failed.

sh-3.1$

I tweaked the settings in my xorg.conf based on what the mythtv wiki suggested, like NvAGP 3, disable the vsync for openGL etc.

I am using Bob 2x framerate for deinterlacing and standard xvmc playback.
I am using the nvidia drivers with a msi card:

Model: GeForce 7300 LE
IRQ: 16
Video BIOS: 05.72.22.34.00
Card Type: PCI-E
DMA Size: 39 bits
DMA Mask: 0x7fffffffff

NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 1.0-8776 Mon Oct 16 21:56:04 PDT 2006
GCC version: gcc version 4.1.2 20061028 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-19)

System hardware - Shuttle SD30G2B Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 Intel 945GC 1 GB RAM

This is frustrating b/c then I have to reopen the front end via vnc usually, and find where I was in the program. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, I really love mythtv and I really feel it will be totally solid once this is fixed.

Thanks,
Mike

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the exact cause of this. I thought it might be a bug in XVMC but it still crashed after disabling it. I upgraded to R5F27 and have the updated nvidia drivers and that didn't make any difference either. But I have greatly reduced the issue by disabling the sticky keys feature. Although a few times it has just crashed while playing a ts from the cablebox, 99% of the time it crashes while it is doing a 3x or 5x FFD or RWD over the bad spot. It never happens from a HDTV recording from off-air through the dvb card. It seems to be strictly related to errors in the ts stream when using a cablebox.

I guess it is a problem with the way the frontend handles errors in the TS playback. Is there any way to open a ticket or let someone involved in the development know about it?

Thanks in advance!
