Hello,

Somehow the contents of the /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13 directory are corrupt and I was wondering how I can rebuild/replace it??

Somehow all of these files got changed October 4th, and I know I didn't do anything to cause this since I wasn't even in town then:

Code:
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 152K Oct  4 19:26 modules.alias
-rw-r--r--  1 root root   69 Oct  4 19:26 modules.ccwmap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 325K Oct  4 19:26 modules.dep
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  813 Oct  4 19:26 modules.ieee1394map
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  730 Oct  4 19:26 modules.inputmap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  32K Oct  4 19:26 modules.isapnpmap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root   74 Oct  4 19:26 modules.ofmap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 156K Oct  4 19:26 modules.pcimap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1.1K Oct  4 19:26 modules.seriomap
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 123K Oct  4 19:26 modules.symbols
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 136K Oct  4 19:26 modules.usbmap

I tried today to use my KnoppMyth box, but when it boots I get messages about the "modules.alias" file in particular having bad entries in it. Looking at the file I see it is truncated:

Code:
alias pci:v00001145d00008009sv*sd*bc*sc*i* nsp32
alias pci:v0000101Ed00009010sv*sd*bc*sc*i* megaraid
alias pci:v0000101Ed00009060sv*sd*bc*sc*i* megaraid
alias pci:v000080

and it just ends there. Any ideas? Or will I be re-installing?

Also, the following files/directories have the same "Oct 4 19:26" timestamp:

/etc/modprobe.d
/etc/modules.conf
/etc/modules.conf.old
/etc/modprobe.d/KnoppMyth
/etc/mythtv/Cards
/home/mythtv/.newcard

There is no difference between /etc/modules.conf and /etc/modules.conf.old

/etc/mythtv/Cards looks OK (I have a PVR-350 and 150):

02:02.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
02:04.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)

/etc/modprobe.d/KnoppMyth:

include /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
include /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv0
include /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv1

You don't have the box exposed directly to the net do you? That's a really bad idea...

As for recovery, my initial thought was to point you to directions for getting fresh copies of files like that off of the install CD, but on second thought a good backup and auto-upgrade to the same version is probably the safest course of action. I might go so far as to get a utility CD and scrub the HD (including the boot sector) with it as thoroughly as possible. You might even want to reset the BIOS...
