so i'm messing around with setting up a frontend, and i'm getting the backend set up. since it's running on a TV downstairs, obviously i'll just use this computer i'm working on to ssh into and edit things on the backend... apparently (i'm not certain, but this is where i'm assuming the problem lies...) i started working on frontend things, like "mount backend:/myth /myth" and accidentally put it into the window (as root, no less) that was sshed into the backend. apparently i mounted /myth as an nfs share onto /myth. things promptly stopped running, so i decided to reboot... well now nothing works. on a restart, it gets to the point where it's going to start X and just hangs with a black screen and an underscore in the upper left corner of my TV that no longer blinks. at that time it no longer responds to pings on the network, obviously ssh doesn't work, and alt+F# doesn't work. the computer is completely unresponsive and has to be reset.
i've tried commenting out the only share in /etc/exports (after getting to a terminal with the install disc and mounting /...) hoping that might solve it, still hangs on me. i've tried removing anything to do with nfs from /etc/rc*.d/, also removed anything to do with nvidia or X that i could find. it still starts X and promptly hangs itself... if anyone could offer some ideas or places to look for information, i'd REALLY appreciate it, otherwise, i'll probably be re-installing tomorrow afternoon. i've already missed one nights worth of programs. and the sad thing is, i can't get into the system to run mythbackup so i can get my DB data backed up.
simple things like how to convince it to boot into a lower runlevel would be super-nice to know, since lilo/grub doesn't pause long enough to pass any parameters
help me obi wan kenobi... you're my only hope!
