My machine is doing it again. This time, slightly different. It was only happening when I'm watching Live TV and bring up the guide. Since I rarely watched Live TV, it wasn't an issue I concerned myself with.

But today, while watching a video, I hit 'back/exit' on the remote, and it froze before leaving the show. Complete lockup, can't even ssh. Nothing.

I had to reboot, the worst part was, it was in the middle of another recording, which I know have to piece together

Initially my thoughts were it was related to the Guide, but I'm now wondering if it's something to do with the remote? Since it has happened twice hitting 'back/exit'. Once from TV, once from a video.

Also, and I'm not sure if it's related, but while watching a video the picture suddenly stopped, but the sound kept working, thinking a cable came loose, I refastened them all, to no avail. I then hit 'back/exit' on the remote to stop the video I was watching...and *kapow* there was the menu showing on the screen.

It's odd to say the least. Since the problem seems intermittent. The only commonality is that a tuner is in use when the freeze up happens.

But looking at the graphs in RRD, it doesn't appear it's getting too hot, or too stressed under load.

I'm stumped.

This isn't your problem exactly but it is related to bringing up the guide during live tv, so it might be worth a try. Check out the end of the thread:

relevant setting:
Utilities/Setup > Setup > Appearance > Screen Settings > Use GUI size for TV playback try changing your setting, no matter what it is set to.

I have a similar problem. Once every day or two, when I try to exit the onscreen guide, Knoppmyth goes into a hard lock. This is when I usually my wife) am going thru the guide while watching live tv. I ran R5B7 for quite a while and never had a problem until I did the upgrade to R5F1 at the beginning of September to deal the Zap Labs affair. I had hoped the upgrade to R5F27 would correct it but it still happens though maybe not as often. I find nothing in the logs after rebooting. Can someone give me a lead?
