Hi

I've been using Knoppmyth since ver R4-something. The most recent full Knoppmyth that I'm using seems to be R5C7. I signed up for Schedules Direct when they announced $20/year. Since I have a few other thing's running on my myth box (I know, probably not a good idea), I followed the update that Cecil provided on just upgrading myth and the plugin's from svn. Everything seemed to working just fine. That was back in September. Last night I rebooted the box, and now it stays frozen on the 'Welcome to Knoppmyth'.

I'm able to boot from a Knoppmyth live CD and from the command prompt, i can see that my boot drive and the others have enough free space, and the there are enough inodes as well. The odd thing is when I look at any of the log files in /var/logs - the latest timestamp on any of them is when I chose to reboot ... 2:54AM ... none of them have anything in them after that.

system:

AMD 2600
Hauppauge PVR 250
Nvidia 5200 w/ TVOut

Also, perhaps connected to this is that fact that i've moved the /var partition to another drive, and on my root drive is a symbolic link to /max/var which is where it really lives. i actually made this move over 1 year ago, and have never had a problem with it. (the logs and my web folder's were getting too big)

Any help would be appreciated.

Given that you can go look at /var/log, it sounds like linux is booting. I'm not sure what's going wrong, and i don't recall the exact stage of the startup sequence when the 'welcome to knoppmyth' screen comes up, but here are some things i would try:

1. Is the myth backend present -- " ps auxw | grep mythbackend"

2. remote login and run 'top -d 1". Who is using the CPU? what's running?

3. As root try "/etc/init.d/gdm restart"

Hi Marc

Thanks for the reply.

I can actually only see /var/log when I've booted from the Live CD, so I don't think I can try any of your suggestions since all of them seem to infer that I'm booted into my regular Knoppmyth installation.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

luxcious.

When you boot from disc can you remote login to the box with putty or bring up an x-window by hitting "alt-x" on the keyboard?

When I boot from disc, I can exit the installer and I'm at a console prompt. From here, I can mount my hard drive's and browse them. I can't seem to SSH to the Live CD booted OS.

I've just gone with a fresh install of R5F27. No need to restore the existing setup. It was time to start fresh anyways.
