Hi

Does anyone know what happened to the old knoppmyth R4V5 install instructions that used to be at

http://mysettopbox.tv/doc.html

?

The document has been replaced with a R5 version and they are different but there is no link to the old version. There are R4V5 install instructions on the knoppmyth wiki site but they are not printer friendly and I do not know how to make wiki articles format for printer.

Help!

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

Of course, there is always the cut n' paste into MS Word option -> 3 pages.

D'oh!

Thanks!

The new doc should work for all version to date. Yes it is states R5, this is because the alpha uses the same installer as the previous versions.

Cesman,
Are you sure about that? I noticed some fairly significant changes such as those in bold below. It used to say "knoppmyth" for kernel name, etc.

new

Installation
In your BIOS, set the system to boot from CD.
At the splashscreen press:
for no TV out:
knoppix alsa<ENTER>
with TV out:
knoppix alsa screen="800x600"<ENTER>This will set your video adapter to a resolution of 800x600.
Note: You'll still need to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to change the refresh rate or you CAN destroy your TV.

versus

old

1. Set the system to boot from CD in your computer's BIOS.

2. Restart your system with the Knoppmyth CD in the drive.

3. At the splashscreen, press Enter at the boot: prompt if you do not have your computer connected to a TV via TV-out.

If you do have your computer connected to a TV via TV-out, type tv at the boot: prompt and press Enter. This will set your video adapter to a resolution of 800x600. You will still need to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to change the refresh rate or you can destroy your TV.

If you are using a 640x480 monitor type: knoppmyth screen=640x480 at the prompt. If your screen freaks out type Ctr-Alt-F1 to enter terminal mode.

I am printing the instructions out for a Linux-SIG InstallFest I am planning on going to. I am taking 6 giveaway R4V5 CDs and printed instructions and offering to help install KnoppMyth on folks HTPCs.

You are probably right, I am just being cautious as I don't want to send the newb's off a cliff.

Thanks!

Ok, so there are so minor differences... Do them a favor, use the alpha.
