Allright, after only 2 days I got my Myth box running.
Specs are:
Some cheapo ECS mobo
Athlon 750
512 pc-2700
pvr-250
geforce 4 ti4600
60 gig 7200 rpm hd

Most the time was spent getting the gf4 tv-out working, KnoppMyth R4V5 installed no problemo, I was capturing video in under an hour.

So now I just have a few things to iron out, hopefully with your help.

First issue is the channel changing speed is a little slow when watching live tv. Probably takes 3-5 secs for a channel change. Is this a function of the tuner card or is it dependent on processor speed or hard drive speed? Basically am I stuck with it or can I upgrade to make it faster?

Second question, I installed R4V5 because it's what I had downloaded. At this point does it make sense for me to upgrade to one of the R5 alphas or should I just stick to R4 for now? Is the upgrade process easy?
Also I'm using the nvidia drivers that were on the cd, 4869 or something like that. I've heard the newer drivers have better controls and can reduce flicker (I don't have much as is). Should I upgrade the nvidia drivers or stick with what's working?
Also how hard is it to add another hard drive to an existing KnoppMyth install?

Ok one last quick one, anyone care to post for me some good links describing setting up MAME with knoppmyth? Is the mame program on the default install or do I have to d/l it? Thanks y'all, looking forward to helping out on this board.

adding hard drive search the wiki

installing mame search the forums.

I don't mean to not be helpful, but neither are extremely easy, and both have been covered in great detail which there is no need to repeat here.

Live tv is buffered to the hard drive and is about 2 seconds behind, so i think changing channels will always be at least that slow. But I think the ivtv drivers also play a roll in the speed. When I upgraded ivtv from 0.1.9 to 0.1.10-pre2-ck100z changing channels seemed to take longer (I also have the pvr-250). But the upgrade took care of a problem I was having so I've left it alone. I plan to try the 0.2.0 series sometime and see if there is any difference but haven't yet.
