I am a newbe to MythTV. I just installed R4V5 with no problems, setup the guide, weather, a couple of news site and the tuner. The only problem I see is that the video is very sluggish when watching live or recorded tv. I appears to be droping frames. Don't get me wrong, you can watch it, but the droped frames make it annoying. I am running the following:

1.7Ghz celeron
510Mb Ram
80Gig HD
Hauppauge 250
ATI 9200 Video

I installed using fb800x600
I suspect that the hardware decoder on the 250 is not be utilized. Do anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Phillip

Not sure what the problems might be, but just to clarify, the PVR-250 only has a hardware ENcoder, not a DEcoder. So no MPEG2 playback acceleration with the 250.

The question would be which video driver are you using? What is the output of:
Code:
grep Driver /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

cesman - I haven't configured any drivers. It is a straight knoppmyth install. Do you think that missing frames is more about the video driver than the hardware encoder? I'll have to look at it tonight to see what it's using.

Yes, that is why I posted what I did.

I''m havig the same problem with the via driver and PVR250. I can watch recorded shows and movies just fine, but LiveTV pauses every few seconds.

brill, are you sure you're using DMA on the hard drive?

I don't know if chigger got his question answered, but if brill is using an ati 9200 also, please check my post in Tier 3 (I'm pastabagel, or at least that's what they call me).

In short, you can't just do a straight knoppmyth install and expect it to work. You got to slog it out with ATI's drivers, and run through some config files. Check my post and ask questions.

Having wrangled the Radeon 9200 into full working order, I will tell you that when dealing with ATI cards and under Linux, one must have a strong pimp hand.

In short, make sure your tuner type is right before working the ATI problem. Then make sure you are using the fglrx drivers, NOT THE RADEON DRIVER. Some older posts tell you to do this because the fglrx driver wasn't as good as it is now.

In short, you should be able to run fglrxinfo and get a message saying ATI drivers, not Mesa. You should also be able to run glxgears and fgl_glxgears and get high frame rates.

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL
