Hi there,

I'm seeing three issues, and have just a couple quick questions that I can't seem to find a clear answer to.

1. Sorry if this sounds dumb but it's not obvious to me. I have the backend is working fine and I started NTFS. When I connect the front end I am able to see the video file so I know the db is connecting but when I try and load it I see loading for a second but it dosn't start playback and drops back to file screen. I can play the file back via mythweb on a windows box... Do I have to set the front end to mount the back end file system (as apposed to a more windows-esc file share)? Or am I missing something else completely that needs to be set to allow access the files from a front end system off of CD?

2. I can't seem to get privilege on the front end system running off of CD when I do su it returns "sudo: enable to lookup knoppix via get host by name" instead of asking for a password. I assume this is because there is not a step to set one when running the front end off of CD, so how do I correct this?

3. One of my test fronends is an old IBM with PCMCIA card slot running a Xirom cardbus nic, I can't seem to get this to grab a DHCP address and I can't run pump without root... but I'm not sure if that will help. Anyone have any experience with these older nics and getting them up?
lspci shows that the system is seeing the card and identifying it correctly but ifconfig returns only lo

I'm not super Linux savvy (but I'm learning quick on this project) but I'm able to follow directions pretty well :)

Thanks!

1. started NTFS?! Have you read the docs on configuring the frontend?
2.<ctrl><alt><f2>
3.I guess it all depends on the model Xircom you have... I've tested with a Xircom and it works fine.

So on 1 yes I did read them and was referring to the backend running ntfs (two separate boxes, sorry if that was not clear...). Which is to say I followed the directions in the wiki on NTFS.
I also followed (I think accurately) the brief instructions on the front end section of the install doc, which basically said comment out skip networking and not much else, but that seems good since I can make the front end see the db at least. I also read through the main myth docs, but I did not find anything pertaining to this specific issue.

The front box see's the back end box but won't playback the avi. Mythweb will and the permissions are ok on the file for access. So do you have to mount the backend box to read the video files or should that not be needed and some other tweak is needed?
I would just try it out but one the boxes at the office and my vpn is wonky right now (setting this up on our lab network, so everything for testing so far has been one switch hop away).

If I have missed some document ion specific to this please point me in the right direction...

On 2. thanks :)

3. Well it's a Xircom Cardbus dosn't seem to have more info that is readable, I'll break out hte magnifying glass on monday for the little numbers. the card is listed correctly with lspci... I'm certainly open to suggestions on ways to poke at. It certainly seems like it should work (card dose work under windows, I got worried it might be a hardware issue). This for a second test frontend so it's not critical I guess if matters get desperate I can go buy a USB adapter or somthing.

Thanks
