I have all in one box running after auto install.
commented out skip-networking.
made a channels.conf file where does this belong? I have made one under ~/.azap and also under/myth
run .azap and see good fe_lock
run mythtv-setup and put leave 127.0.0.1 as default, pick dvb, on new capture card, not the pchdtv at the top, but after I hit dvb, it sees my hd-3000 card.
run channel scan, it picks them up.
run myth tv setups and set from local host default to 127.0.0.1
set the zap2it referals in all the above.
when I try to watch tv it goes black and eventually comes back to Tux screen with terminal window saying cannot connect to mysql at 127.0.0.1
Tried other things like trying to start and stop backend etc, but those commands don't reply or are not recognized.
this was from fresh auto install off cdrom that just checked good with md5 sum.
also when clicking mplayer from tux screen, it just dissapears the clicking window and nothing happens.
have tried the nvidia 7xxx drivers seems to install BTW what is the nvidea live listing residing with the 2 driver choices?
late the other night It seemed it was almost working, got pid data from ota stations, jack horkheimer was supposed to be on, maybe i was tuned to wrong sub channel or something. went to try more in morning and all functions were lost after it was restarted that morning, so here I am starting over. Spent this morning tring to find out how to keep/start backend mysql etc. Thanks

if you are just going to be using one box like your post makes it sound you should just leave everything at default and you do not need to comment out the skip networking. the only time you have to do that or change any of the localhost addresses unless you are planning on having separate frontend machines.
the reason for two nvidia drivers is the 7xxx drivers broke 1080i. so if you want to use 1080i output you have to use the 6xxx drivers.
also there are some steps you have to take to make the zap2it lineup match up to the scanned channels. search the forums to find out more. The hdtv section is a good place to look there is much discusion there.

well, tried both with and without skip-networking commented out.
this is a single box booted without cd as required.
I was able to associate zap2it channels.
Now I am getting ring buffer errors after it says trying to switch to live tv.
then it gives up.
When going back to check my card settings, it says dvb device 0 is busy and unavailable where before it showed the hd-3000 model number.
after restarting, now I am getting the cannot connect to database error again.
I still wonder what the nvidea live file is for. And why the mplayer window does not come up when clicked on the Tux screen.
Tonight I am going back to my Fedora Core 3 build and try Freevo for now.
When Jarrod gets time for his guide and core4 I will try the full myth install.

I have no idea what a nvidea live file is I have no idea what you are talking about and I am pretty darn familiar with knoppmyth. I'm not sure what you are talking about when you say clicking on mplayer from the tux screen either I'm guessing you are talking about the desktop that has tux watching the knoppmyth developers on the tv.
You realize freevo doesn't have pause livetv, but other than that I've heard it's fairly nice. Good luck with Jarods guide. It's great, but I can still tell you guide or not knoppmyth is the easiest way to a working mythtv box.

So far it is not easy as you spend a lot of time searching forums. with some pauses due to family and job I got my pchdtv card in January.
I at one time under fedoragot to record and play with mplayer ok. Even recorded the Kentucky Derby off the air. Then all the kernal built-in dvb stuff was coming out so I awaited that.
Then core4 was coming out and was ready to do that with Jarrod's guide but he is busy for now, so I thought i'd try knoppmyth again after failing in January.
Spent most of this week on that as wife and I are on vacation, and she is itching to get a big screen something of my choice.
If not being a member of the EFF and a wannabe linux user, I would get a dlp 50" with hdtv tuner rather than a PCHT with front projector, But it would be sacrilage to go buy a commercial box. nuff said.
Anyway somewhere in my install notes from the wiki it says to go to usr/local/bin and type *nvidea* shows the 3 files 6xxx driver 7xxx driver and nvidea-live.sh it is in this directory. the first night i tryed the live choice and it seemed to go online and do stuff. Guess the asterisk stuff brings out a script file, I see it listed in the entire directory..sorry for the confusion, guess it is not a third driver selection.
I am at this time trying to install freevo on the debian drive from the knoppmyth disk using apt-get and synaptic. Love to punish myself.
Figure I can still play with the knoppmyth concurrently. I changed it to boot into plain desktop, and yes I mean the Tux screen is the mythtv penguin watching tv screen. Thanks

well not sure why you are having so many problems as I know of numerous people who have pchdtv3000 including myself that it just works right out of the box. If you want to try the older drivers you can use R5A12 that reduces a few steps that are required with the dvb drivers, but either way the drivers are loaded and working on default install.

I don't want to go backwards...I waited long enough for the dvb stuff in the kernal.
I started from scratch with the auto install left everthing at default except the things I had to choose as under dvd, it recognises my hd-3000 card the first time. (Note1)
After googling/yahooing/askjeeveing for hours I came upon I came upon some possible permission problems. Note2
Scanning the channels is ok, seems to build a good looking channel list etc tied to zap2it and I am getting strong signals.
I haven't done it this particular time, but are we supposed to ap-get update after installing? is that why I can't click and run mplayer from the penguin screen?
Note1 When in the couse of t-shooting, if I go back to the card select point it says card 0 is in use. Maybe normal once you select the card, or maybe I have to kill the card process/job somehow.
Note2 If I su to root and run mythtv I get black screen for a few seconds then term window shows decoder not alive and trying to play, ring buffer errors etc.
If I open a term under the $ user, then I get the cannot connect to mysql database errors.
P.S. More than one person is welcome to chime in.

once the backend is started it allways keeps the dvb card open. there is an option to allow it to only open the card when it needs it, but it was rather flaky for me. To stop the backend as root run /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop (that command is from memory, so may not be spelled right might not have the - but tab completion should find it easily enough)
Not sure why the menu item for mplayer doesn't open mplayer, as I've never used it, it might be pointing to the wrong place or something. I really don't see any need to use it as I use the mythtv interface to access everything.
mplayer most likely couldn't open the card because of the first thing I stated above.

It seems as though i am not getting the mysql error on this latest build,
but still says not able to connect to socket and ends up with unable to read the ringbuffer file from cache/cache. I switched all addresses over to my 192.168.0.x addresses and it did same thing. Think I will try two boxes soon, so I will leave it set to 192...
--
set up 2 boxes using the cd front end on one machine and got same ringbuffer decoder not alive stuff.
Next I'll try to edit out all but 1 strong station, and/or get mplayer up so I can see a signal. now that the mysql stuff is gone maybe this is one step further and I need to get tuning stuff right thanks guys.

I've run into some interesting difficulties with the HD3000 myself. Some of them I put down to a crappy indoor antenna (which is going back today), others to the fact that some of my local ATSC broadcasters have their streams misidentitfied (e.g. channel 68.1 -> 68.4 on frequncy 32 is identified as 41 -> 44!) and still others to some config issue that I've probably overlooked...
I think some kind of timeout for getting a signal lock while watching live TV is part of my problem, since I can watch a recording in near real time, and when the other (NTSC) tuner is recording and it doesn't have a choice I can usually watch live, but otherwise it tends to "bounce" either back to the other tuner or out to the menu.
