i scheduled a recording for 10.05pm last night. when i tried to shut the box down at 1am, it was telling me, that it was still recording (scheduled recording should have stopped at 12.40...) so I made a hard shutdown...
after reboot, knoppmyth didn't start mythtv automatically but tells me to log in. it doesnt know the "mythtv" user, but i can log in as root. so i started the "Restore" from the mythtv menu. but after reboot the same: it won't log me in automatically...
sorry, i can't provide much more info atm, tell me please what log files i have to read or post...

i found the solution here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5468
i deleted some very large log messages and now the mythtv user logs in automatically,
but MythTv won't start automatically. I'm stuck on that "penguin on a couch" pic. When i try to start MythTv backend with <ALT><M> then it will show me a screen where i can select the language.
after doing this it is telling me that it couldn't connect to the database and i should verify the database settings. but from my point of view everything should be allright.
i checked the hostname and the database name and everything should be ok but it won't start...

<alt><m> doesn't start the backend. Have you checked the backend log?

Yes, no. Why would I tell you other wise? Looks like your db got wiped out somehow... The name of the db is mythconverg. Just as it states in the bakend log. Did you fsck the drive after the crash? Did you check the db for errors after the fsck? One should at all cost try to avoid taking down a box the hard way. But, if you must you must. You should however at a minimum do an fsck afterward.
Interest that the mysql log does show mythconverg... Perhaps a configuration issue (cough, cough run mythtv-setup and verify IP addresses)?!

yeah, i'll run fsck... mythtv-setup fails becaues it tells me the same, that it could not find the db...
