Is it possible to setup a Knoppmyth CD image so that it's set to the proper backend address so that you wouldn't have to do anything more than bootup the CD to have a frontend machine?

I guess you'd also need to have the frontend machine grab it's time, date, and timezone information from the backend.

How hard would it be to do this?

It's been discussed before. basically you'll have to remaster the cd. The old thread should have more details, I've never done it myself.
