Hi All,

When I launch this app within KnoppMyth (via the KnoppMyth --> Create DVD, a message flies by that says something about the resolution not being correct. It goes by much too fast to read completely. I have gathered from other posts that the resolution of the recorded files need to be DVD compatible, for example 352x480. I am currently using 480x480.

Changing resolution results in video that flickers - When I record a show at 352x480 resolution, the video on playback flickers every 5 to 10 seconds. It is annoying enough to not use it. Can this be corrected somehow?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Hood

Okay, I found this thread that might have the solution. I will try it and report what happens.

KnoppMyth "Create DVD" button gives error

Unfortunately, following the instructions of the link (i.e., editing nuv2disc.sh and inserting MYX=720 MYY=480) above did not solve the problem. Can anyone suggest an alternative solution?

Since reporting the above, I have been using MythBurn. MythBurn is a very nice application and I will continue to use it. MythBurn is installed by default in the latest release of KnoppMyth (5RA30.x). Because Nuv2disc has some features that is not in MythBurn, I still hope Nuv2disc will continue to be developed.

Regards,

Dr. Hood

I have received several emails asking why nuv2disc exisited when mythburn could be used.
Seems like everybody is using Mythburn instead of nuv2disc.

Nuv2disc now does everything I need , so there are no plans in the near future for a release.

With that being said, about two months ago I started on a new-ui.

Hey Jams,

Thank you for posting the reply Jams. I for one, am very glad that there is nuv2disc. It does serve a purpose and provides features that other components do not. I have used nuv2disc to burn a recorded show to a CD not DVD) as a data disc. IMHO, this is a useful feature because it provides an alternative to burning to DVD. I wouldn't be surprised if there are many other features to nuv2disc that I am not appreciating because I have not fully taken advantage of this application.

Using nuv2disc on a 27 inch TV (4:3), which is at a low resolution (I think), is not so easy for me because much of the nuv2disc UI cannot be seen. Most of the directory tree cannot be seen, and only the 'Back' button can be seen. I think this is not a problem for users viewing TV on a computer monitor that is capable of higher resolutions. Unfortunately, I have not fully tested this though.

Once the screen size of nuv2disc becomes more 'TV friendly' for me, I am sure that using nuv2disc will become much easier for me, or at least I will perceive it to be easier.

I look forward to any UI enhancements to nuv2disc and I hope they make it into a future version of Knoppmyth.

I do commend the developers who work on nuv2disc,

With kind regards,

Dr. Hood

Dr Hood,
Nuv2disc runs at 848x480 because that is what my main machine runs at.
What resolution do you run at?

Jams,

In the first post above, I reported that when I selected 'Home --> KnoppMyth --> Create DVD', an error message appeared informing me that the resolution is set to 720x480 and should be changed.

I eliminated the error, but not the problem, by editing the nuv2disc.sh file (located in /myth/nuv2disc). Specifically, the change was the following:

Original nuv2disc.sh
Quote:
76 MYX=`echo $MYRES | awk -Fx ' { print $1 } '`
77 MYY=`echo $MYRES | awk -Fx ' { print $2 } '`

Modified nuv2disc.sh
Quote:
76 MYX=720
77 MYY=480

Making this change eliminated the error message when starting nuv2disc.

I must also state that first screen that the first and second screens that appears immediately after launching nuv2disc, appear okay. However, after clicking on 'Select Files' in the second screen, the screen is much large.

After re-reading the nuv2disc.sh file, I am thinking that I have not fully edited this file properly to get nuv2disc to change its resolution appropriately.

I will try a bit more editing and report my experience.

Dr. Hood

UPDATE: I also changed the $MXX and $MXY values to 720x480, but the resolution stays the same (too big) after clicking on the 'Select Files' button. It still could be that I am not making the correct changes to nuv2disc.sh, don't know for sure.

Dr hood.
What you are seeing is normal. The interface is setup for 848x480 and it has NO scaling ability.
So in a nutshell the right part of the interface is being drawn offscreen with no way for you to view it's contents.

Fixing this will not be a simple one liner as each element on screen has a hard coded position and size.

Jams,

Thank you for the confirmation that I am not missing something. I appreciate the effort you have put into nuv2disc. I actually never imagined I would be communicating with the developer of this application, which is great. Unfortunately, I am just a user and I have no programming skills. However, I do hope you have found this feedback useful. I have found this discussion educational and rewarding. I do hope that a solution is found and implemented. Be sure to let me know if additional information is needed. I will do what I can to help.

With kind regards,

Dr. Hood
