Here's what I want to do: Store all my shows/movies/music on usb drives. When I fill them up, I want to be able to add 1 more large capacity drive and proceed to gradually fill it up. Then buy another drive, etc. etc. This I have been able to accomplish so far, but i end up having a directory structure that looks like this:

Code:
/myth/video/usb001
           /usb002
           /usb003

and when i add say a 4th usb drive:

           /usb004

This makes it an obvious pain to look for, alphabetize, etc. my videos. as a simple example:

Code:
usb001/movie-a
      /movie-d

usb002/movie-z

usb003/movie-q
      /movie-b

usb004/movie-g
      /movie-h
      /movie-c

I would like to be able to have a directory structure that would look more like this:

Code:
/myth/video/usbstorage/movie-a
                      /movie-b
                      /movie-c
                      /movie-d
                      /movie-g
                      /movie-h
                      /movie-q
                      /movie-z

As you can see, the "usbstorage" directory puts all subdirectories from all usb drives into one directory.

I know you can do this with 'unionfs' as I've experienced it with my knoppix diagnostics boot disc. Would using unionfs be overkill? Is there a simpler way to do what I want to accomplish? Any gotcha's if unionfs is the best way? Thanks in advance.

Put the storage in an arbitrary place and set up a link farm like the /myth/pretty directory. You can even steal a bunch of code from the script that generates that.
