Under R5A16, mplayer worked fine using the xv interface to play various video files. After upgrading to R5B7, mplayer works sometimes, but sometimes the video is just black.

For some files, mplayer works every time. For others the success rate may be anything from 10% to 90%. If I just keep quitting and restarting mplayer, it will work eventually. But, for some files, it takes quite a few tries before it works. What appears to be happening is the mplayer window comes up initially non-full-screen (this is normal), then it gets scaled to full-screen. There's always video in the non-full-screen window, but often it goes black when it switches to full-screen. If it survives the switch to full-screen, it'll play fine for the rest of the file. If it goes black when the switch to full-screen happens, then it'll stay black until I exit mplayer.

All of these files played fine under R5A16.

Has anybody else had problem with mplayer in R5B7?

Yep I had the same problem until I recompiled mplayer as part of installing mythstream. Don't think I've had it since.

I've been thinking about it, and I think I built mplayer from source on my old system in order to get xv support. I guess I'll give that a shot.

It'll give the machine something to do now that the local PBS affilliate has filled their schedule with crap as part of their fund drive. Never quite understood that...
