My Mythtv box has been running mostly flawless for sometime. I was finally confident in my decision to use MythTV and not the new generation TIVO with web interface. So 2 questions:

1.) Can anyone help me get my front end to load again? The errors that I see last are this from the mythbackend.log
Code:
root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv# tail mythbackend.log
2006-06-11 19:30:26.968 Setting Lock for Database Schema upgrade. If you see a long pause here it means the Schema is already locked and is being upgraded by another Myth process.
2006-06-11 19:30:26.970 New DB connection, total: 3
2006-06-11 19:30:26.972 Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host: localhost
2006-06-11 19:30:26.975 Told to create a NEW database schema, but the database
already has 66 tables.
If you are sure this is a good mythtv database, verify
that the settings table has the DBSchemaVer variable.

2006-06-11 19:30:26.989 Database Schema upgrade FAILED, unlocking.
2006-06-11 19:30:26.991 Couldn't upgrade database to new schema
root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv#

Second questions - maybe it deserves its own post, but what benefits besides cost are there over the TIVO? The new web interface? I guess upgradable HD's aren't an option, encoding videos to archive on the internet (but thats not my kinda thing) the new TIVO sounds appealing since I have trouble like this every couple weeks with Myth.

If you think it deserves it's own thread, then it deserves it's own off topic thread. Did you do anything prior to it not working? The output is tell you something... Have you followed it's course of action?

Well, prior to it not working I had issues where I had recordings that were showing 2:00 minutes or 24 hours, or 3 minutes of 17 hours, when i know the show is only 30 minutes, so like a good forumn user I searched the forum the first time and I did a repair of the database which in the last 4 times that happened worked fine. I guess the issue is that I don't know how exactlly to do the steps that it wants or what I am looking for. I can research more later.

okay, so I think I got most of the issues resolved. THe only one that I can't figure out is the database cleanup. So yes, I have searched the forumns, and I have removed all the *.nuv files, touched them, chmod 777 chgrp mythtv, and I still get:
Code:
2006-06-13 10:04:44.874 Error deleting '/mnt/gigs/tv/1013_20060604190000.mpg', Permission denied
2006-06-13 10:04:46.880 Error deleting file: /mnt/gigs/tv/1013_20060604190000.mpg. Keeping metadata in database.

if I do an ls -la on the file I get:

Code:
root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv# ls -la /mnt/gigs/tv/1013_20060604190000.mpg
-rwxrwxrwx  1 105 mythtv 0 Jun 13 09:32 /mnt/gigs/tv/1013_20060604190000.mpg
root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv#

So I changed the MythTV user in /etc/passwd to group 0 and still don't have access to delete the files from the site/database.

I can manually delete them but we know this won't remove it from the DB, any ideas?

What are the permissions on the directory?

BTW - Please don't use "chmod 777". It's like opening a bottle of wine by grabbing the neck, swinging it like a baseball/cricket bat and smashing it into the corner of a brick wall...
