Knoppmyth R5C7
Myth 0.19.20060121-2
Ok, there was an inconsistency between /etc/lirc/lircd.conf and /home/mythtv/.lircrc for my Hauppage Grey remote based on the intial install. The key names for rewind and fast forward didn't match between the two files and in the .lircrc the keys also didn't match what was defined by the mythweb interface under keybindings.
So, I changed .lircrc to match the keyname Rewind with the key < and the keyname Forward with the key > and now the correct signals are being sent, but they are severly broken in Mythtv itself.
Fast Forward works at 3X.
Rewind at all speeds and Fast Forward at speeds faster than 3X have the following problems:
- The picture freezes instead of playing at high speed
- Pressing play puts it in pause mode
- Pressing play again puts it in play mode, but the picture stays paused
- Pressing Back doesn't go back to the menu
Basically, using Rewind or using Fast Forward faster than 3X renders the front end useless and I have to do /etc/init.d/gdm restart from the command line to fix it.
Once I do that, the front end is corrupted until I play a recording and then return back to the front end.
Is this a bug in the version of Mythtv? Or is this something that can be fixed through configuration?

Oh, that really stinks. Between that and the problems I've been having with divx playback (no sound) I wish I'd never bought a PVR 350.
Well, I think I'm going shopping again. I think I'll use this Dell SC420 as backup storage and get a machine with on board TV out to act as my Mythtv box.
Somebody could probably make a business out of selling certified Mythtv hardware. I've spent so much money on hardware that seemed to have generally favorable reviews on various Mythtv sites only to find gotchas like this.

is the divix sound is going though your sound card and the tvout sound through the 350?
either way it is not a pvr-350 issue.
I got a pvr-350 for $120. Old pc with 80 gig drive free. stability - priceless ;)
This was way better than getting a vcr.. ie. better price, better picture quality, more recording time, far better flexibility --
For me having the frames not update with ff and rew, while it bugged me a little at first is far from a show stopper. I don't have other issues you describe, just frame update issues described on the bug report.
You could aways downgrade to last alfa release where it wroked also. I think that information
is in the bug report.

Instead of using fastforward and rewind you can use jump forward and jump backward. It is much faster to jump 30 seconds with every press of the button then to wait while it speeds through at 3x rate.
There is no problem with sound from divx playback and the pvr-350. If you are having issues then you must not have hooked your system up correctly.

I have a pair of Nova-Ts, running R5C7, and have very similar problems:
3x is usable, but 5x and above freezes and kills the frontend.
Happens on most, but not all, recordings. The cards are both 909s, in a
combined frontend/backend running on a HP dx2000m Celeron 2.5
CPU util is low, even on concurrent record. Everything is sweet apart from this problem.
I'm new to this, so please let me know what diagnostics could help

If you read the bug report referenced above, you'll see that a lot of people are reporting issues, not just 350 owners. So its likely your issue is the same one. Suggest you follow the link above and compare notes, perhaps add your experiences to the report.
Maybe its just me, but I never use ff and rew. If you haven't set up the jump forward and jump back buttons on your remote, try that instead.
