I'm relatively new to this, so go easy.

1) I'm running R5C7 and my audio is a full second ahead of the video. It's good for Kung Fu, but that's about all. I have a leadtek 2000xp expert. I've searched through all the forums but can not find what I'm looking for. I've heard recommendations to search through the playback settings, but there is nothing in there to help with sync.

2) How do I stop the TV audio? Even when I close MythTV, it continues.

Besides these two things, I'm pumped about this setup. Very impressed.

Sounds like you've enabled sound playback right from the tuner instead of via the record-buffer-playback process that the video follows. I'm guessing you're talking about live tv not recordings? Do you have audio from recordings?

Assuming live tv is what you're about, then running aumix (from the command line preferably while mythtv is running) will probably help you configure it right.

Could you also describe your audio cabling setup.

In my setup I have a short audio cable going from my Leadtek's audio out to the line-in on the motherboard/soundcard. Then I have a cable going from the motherboards audio out socket to the TV.

Once I read this, it made sense. The video is being buffered and delayed by say 950 ms, but the audio is travelling directly from the leadtek card to the sound card across that cable with virtually no delay. It sounds to me like I don't even need that cable and I should disable the line-in source. I'll play with my audio sources until I find the one that is being buffered along with the video.

This also may be my "audio won't stop" problem, as myth has no means (or desire) to stop the line-out audio coming from the leadtek. Simply put, it's not the audio source that Myth was designed to use.

I'll give it a shot when I get home tonight.

So, what did you finally do to solve this problem?

I'm having the same problem, so I disconnected the wire from the Leadtek to the sound card. That killed the "sound plays on" problem, but it also killed all the sound.

So, I went to aumix, and played around, pulling all of the volumes up to 50%, and nothing gives me sound...

I've got live tv, with no sound.

Standard caveat here: I'm completely new to this whole area, so I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm more than willing to flail around. I've been reading everything I can find in various searches - in these forums, at the knoppmythwiki, and on google, but I haven't found the secret, yet.

I think you will need to reconnect the cable from the Leadtek to the soundcard, and instead use aumix to mute the "Line-In". This way mythtv will be able to capture to sound coming into the soundcard without playing it out at the same time. Most modern soundcards are full-duplex, where they can record something separate to what they are playing.

I'm still not getting sound where we expect it.

The live sound seems to be coming in on PCM2 (in aumix). Line and Line1 don't have any effect. I can't find the output from MythTv anywhere.

I wonder if it's because I'm using an integrated sound card on the MoBo. I'm using a "donated" Dell machine that a friend was casting off. Could it be possible that this sound "card" is not full duplex? How would I tell from within knoppix?

We're getting closer here, I can feel success just around the corner!

Some more details:

When I ran aumix, and muted all of the channels except the pcm and pcm2 channels, I got multiple sound streams, but they weren't distinct enough that I could pick out whether or not one of them was in sync with the video.

By muting pcm2 or pcm, I could get a single sound stream, but both appeared to be equally out of sync with the video.

I recalled seeing two input jumpers on the MoBo, so I opened the case, and plugged the tuner card into the other jumper (where the modem was originally plugged in). In this configuration, I can't get any sound at all.

So, I'm going back to the configuration where my sound card is plugged in to the pcm2 input on the MoBo. Of course, now that I've done that, I can only get one sound stream, and it's several seconds ahead of the video.

Can anyone help me figure out how to find the sound stream that's been through the live tv process in mythtv?

Well, I fixed it, but I'm not sure how or why...

I went back to the beginning, and reinstalled KnoppMyth.

THen I used alsamixer instead of aumix. Not sure what the difference is. Remember, I'm a noob to this whole thing.

This time, I turned everything off and then turned the channels on one at a time until I got sound. Lo-and-behold, the sound is now on the CD channel! And even better, when I set the capture, it's in sync with the video!
