a month ago on my original install of r5c7 i was able to mount my remote drive, load up my movie collection over the network and imdb the movie info and the covers.

on later re-installs and on my fresh r5d1 install the movie poster files go nowhere. the imdb works and the info shows up, but no cover. i have tried changing the directory, removing the old pictures from the original directory......nothing works.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks for any help.

Here I am again answering my own questions...

the covers directory is now hidden...

/myth/video/ - ./covers!

found them!

Can I assume you are using the "search IMDB" function in video manager?

If movie has cover should download as a .jpg to \myth\video\.covers\00xxxxx.jpg the xxxxx number corresonds to IMDB number. Does it ever download the .jpg to /myth/video/.covers?

Did you change your mythvideo storage location?

Look in VideoManger and edit the metadata making sure cover path is correct. I just gave my R5D1 install a whirl with posters and worked.

it never actually downloads the file.

it shows the file name, but that file never shows up in the directory.

i have the .covers folder and it still contains lots of old movie posters. They are from my r5c7 install and have titles that reference the imdb number.

r5d1 downloads the covers and they are usually named after the movie title. in video manager i can see that the metadata has been downloaded, and under cover art the file is listed /myth/video/.covers/the_name.jpg but that file isn't in that folder and doesn't show up in my "watch media" screen.

odd...

In Setup>Media Setting>Video Settings>General Settings> Is the cover set to path described above? Did you happen to change permissions on the .covers directory? Verify MythTV user has full access.

From command line try

updatedb
locate *xxxxx*.jpg

xxxxx=IMDB # of movie that is not downloading posters.

the locate command returns nothing, just another prompt.

i'm sure this all stems from the fact that i get my movies from a mounted drive on my windows machine.......

i modified my etc/fstab to mount my movies directory to /myth/video.

an earlier r5c7 install that i set up this worked fine.

how to check to make sure that permissions haven't been modified?

on a side note, in case we solve this....how do you use the imdb batch grabber? can i use this with my mounted drive? it never seem to work.

thanks.

From sounds of it something to do with your windows mount. To test if it is problem with your system or mount. Maybe try chaning the cover location temporirly somewhere local, such as MythTV home directory ./covers.

Did anything change on your Windows permissions (NTFS or share)?
How about fstab mount command? Is the owner mythtv user?

i changed the covers directory to /myth/.covers and still nothing.

nothing is different about my windows mount.

by changing it to /myth/.covers i should have eliminated any problems with the mount. i think. :?

i have no other idea why this wouldn't save properly. :(
