Hi everyone,

I'm in college and unfortunately our dorms aren't wired w/ cable. I, however, quite enjoy cable and have a very nice 42" LCD TV that I used last year when I was not living in dorms. Interestingly enough, there are a few places in the dorm buildings that do infact get cable service (the common areas etc.).

My plan at the moment is as follows: split the cable from one of those rooms and run it into a small/cheap computer setup that I would "hide." My intention would be to run KnoppMyth on that box, and use that to get cable service in my dorm room.

Reading up on the forums/documentation, it seems that this would be doable by setting up the backend box (in the common space) and then a remote frontend box (in my room), correct? W/ this setup would I be able to change the channels etc. live from my room? Just wondering about the overall feasibility of this concept.

Well, I guess other than the feasability of "hiding" and/or securing the backend, and any legalities about siphoning the cable service and sending it somewhere that maybe it isn't supposed to go, the answer is yes. You can change channels on the front end (while using the "live TV" option of MythTV) and the backend will tune to that channel and show it to you.
