Looking around on my backend, I've found the dreaded "DriveReady SeekComplete Error" in my dmesg. The problem is, the drive that's dieing is a part of my LVM array. 2x 250GB

My game plan is to delete enough recordings to get the total size used to be less than 250 gigs. Having some shows is better than no shows (250 gigs worth is more than a couple, should keep the WAF at a moderate level)

Once space has been recreated:

Code:
pvmove /dev/hdc
vgreduce vg /dev/hdc

I'm wondering if writes can still be made during the pvmove. The process will take a long time to finish, or so says the documentation. I hope I don't need to keep the backend down during the whole time, that would be a big plus.

Are there any unforeseen problems I should be keep an eye out for? Or are there any other suggestions on how to survive this with minimal pain?[/code]

Sounds like you want to be able to continue recording shows while doing the disk re-org. It's difficult to say for sure without having tried it, but I suspect you will find that the volume of I/O being done by various LVM commands will result in problems with recordings that you are attempting to do at the same time.
