I was reading about the real-time patches and how they can help with performance, and since I noticed that while playing h264 files a few frames are dropped every few seconds, I thought I would try to apply the rt patch. Unfortunately the kernel will not compile with the rt patch, so I was wondering what other patches are applied to the knoppmyth kernel source?
I also tried on another box, but that did work either. In both cases I was using the debian kernel source, but I am not having any luck compiling a vanilla 2.6.19.1 kernel with the patch either.

Duh! I should know better then tring to patch a kernel when I am falling asleep. Most of the rt patch is all ready in the main kernel except for a few options and all ready configured. I guess all I can do is recompile it for my P4, perhaps that might help a bit more then the generic 586.

This of course brings up the question of what optimations are best?
I see that "Use register arguments (REGPARM)" is not enabled, but it's description says;
I'll give it a try and see if these two changes help my playback.
