But we still don't know WHY any of us would want or need a 64-bit version.

Let's state the question clearly, for anybody to answer: What benefits come from upgrading to a 64-bit version? (Besides it being 64-bit!!)

And let me state my answer, clearly and simply enough for you to understand: None of your business.

Read the private mail I sent you for more information. The reasons for needing it cannot be discussed here.

Furthermore, my question wasn't directed at you, or anyone else who is more interested in poking their noses in the air and demanding justification. It is, to be precise, directed at the person who was kind enough to answer my question.

Again: I asked a simple question. My suggestion is if you can answer it, fine. If you cannot or won't, don't bother replying to this Topic.

Sorry I couldn't get past all the namecalling and yelling in your IM to actually read your message. Don't message me again.

Wow!
PMJI, but you're not going to inspire legions of volunteers to build your 64-bit KnoppMyth if there are no tangible benefits to anyone other than "to help the rude dude with the secret agenda".
There could indeed be benefits. It might be faster. It may playback 1080i HD smooth as butter. It may cure XvMC problems. Maybe it keeps the front-end from crashing. Maybe it puts an end to transcoding errors.
Or, maybe it's just "64 bits because I paid for 64". Or maybe it's going to create lots of incompatibility and bugs that will drive the 64-bit users back to the relative shelter of 32-bits.

There was a fellow a few months back that posted here that he had indeed re-compiled to 64, and that HD playback had improved considerably. If that's the case, and there ARE tangible, compelling benefits, and someone can build a good case for doing it, then it'll probably happen sooner than later.
Otherwise, you're doing nothing to inspire a 64-bit version, IMO. Try Rent-A-Coder, where people don't need any reasons other than your $$$.

Now THAT would be worth it, especially if it also had an effect on a few of the other AMD64 quibbles we've heard about around here.

Why did you post on a discussion forum if you are not willing to have a discussion? I think everybody here is open to a 64-bit version of knoppmyth. But you have to realize that asking "Why would 64bit knppmyth be better then 32-bit knoppmyth?" is a perfectly valid question.

Right now you are behaving like terrorists kidnapped your son and are demanding a 64-bit version of knoppmyth for his safe return. But if you tell anybody the truth, they will kill him. Unless that is the case there is no point in keeping your reasons a secret.

But he can only trust Chloe. Good news, Chloe has already compiled KM64 using spare cycles on the NSA stratum 3 server (using a backdoor carrier wave), and has sent it to his PDA.

I see that copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is coming in handy...
