Hi Folks,

I've been trying to fix this for a couple of days. I just upgraded my R5D1 which has about 15 kids movies such as Cars, Toy Story, etc. MythTV was a great success story for the wife for managing all the DVDs. We've been running solid for awhile now. After the upgrade having followed the "hints and tricks" guide by tjc I made it threw unscathed. Except for when we fired up Lightning McQueen and Cars. The Disney and pixar opening are fine, but when Mcqueen starts daydreaming and the engines rev by we get stuttering sound. Other DVDs have the same problem, like Frosty the Snowman.

BTW, I have a AMD 64 bit 2800 with a Gig of memory and 160GB drive with about 54% spare.

I went back and tried to fix this by following graysky's guide for updating mplayer and essential codecs. I believe the tjc guide said cecil took a conservative approach. That didn't seem to fix it.

I rebuilt alsaconf. That didn't fix it.

I got the original DVD and it plays fine in the optical drive. Hmmm...clue. I did notice that hdparm says my dma is off for /dev/dvd.

I opened up a cmdtool and ran mplayer by hand with only cars.vob as the parameter. It opened up in a window but didn't have stuttering problems. Hmmm.

My Setup->Video Settings->Player had the following
mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv %s

The vo xv option talks about XVID options for XFree11, hmm didn't we just move to X something else? I removed the -quiet and -vo xv lines but it still stutters.

Now I ask you fine folks?

What else can I provide to help out?

Thanks, Happy New Year.

I just noticed that the MythVideo file associations have .vob to the "internal" player. Earlier I couldn't figure out why I couldn't see mplayer when I did a 'top' to figure out why the sound was stuttering.

Maybe it wasn't this way before but I simply checked the Use Default Player option on the vob file association. No more stuttering like when I ran it by hand.
