I am having a weird problem with some video files. I have many files that I need to transfer to /myth/video. I transfered one video file (MPEG 4, AC3). I can see it in the list, but it won't play. What makes this weird is that it will play directly from my USB flash with no problem. Help?

How are you playing it directly (what program are you using?)? What program is configured to launch the file from MythVideo?

Same issue as your music. Check permissions within /myth/video.

Also like music, you must first scan the video folder through setup. This adds it to the database and then you are able to see and play the video.

Great! That did it.

Now that I have my music and videos showing up, how can I get them to display album art or some other image (rather than a folder for videos)?
My music files are all going to be FLAC and I don't think album art can be embedded with them (correct me if I'm wrong).

Create a picture named "folder.jpg" in folder you want to have art.

I gather that would work for changing the image shown for each folder. (duh) What do I name the file to get it to display as the album art for an album (in the case of my music, each album in its own directory).

I found the area to add poster art for the videos. What location is it pulling the image files that are available? Is it the directory that the video is in or some other place that all videos pull their art from?

Also, is there a way to organize my video files into subfolders? I have put a video file in a subfolder but I still only see the file directly under /myth/video.

It's still folder.jpg. The directory it resides in keeps it unique. Try a Google search for Linux albumart, you'll find scripts to download the jpgs for you.

The artwork is stored in the location defined in "Directory that holds movie posters" in your video setup. The artwork is downloaded from IMDB when you request it (Utilities/Setup -> Video Manager, select a movie and press M or Menu, down to "Search IMDB")

Did you copy it into the subdirectory? If so you would still see it under the original directory as well. Rescan the videos (Utilities/Setup -> Video Manager) and you should see them in their appropriate directories.

Have you been through http://knoppmythwiki.org/? Many of the issues you are running into are covered there.

slowtolearn,

Thanks for all your help. That link was quite helpful. I do have another question that I haven't found an answer to yet. Is it possible to have playlists for videos? I want to have a list of music videos that can play randomly.

Getting a bit off topic from your original subject.

But... MythVideo can use mplayer, mplayer can use play lists. Never tried it but if you create the playlists in MythVideo directory, add the extension with the correct Mplayer commands to MythVideo file extension should work.

This post details partially what you are looking for. Just have to figure out the switch to tell mplayer to play in random order.

Start at the "Create a new file type in setup for the video module: "lst" setction

It looks like to play the files randomly, -shuffle is the additional command.
