I have a AMD 3800+ system with 320Gb SATA harddrive and a ATI TV Wonder 650 Card. I installed KnoppMyth R5E50 using first Manual then Auto Install. Both ways seem to partion and install s/w OK. But when I reboot, I first get the message:

KnoppMyth found no multimedia video cards

and then finally starts spitting out the message every five minutes:

INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast; disabled for 5 minutes

I tracked this to the /etc/inittab file and discovered that this is the command that starts KnoppMyth:

c7: 2345: respawn /usr/bin/openvt -fwc 6 -- /bin/su - myth -c /usr/bin/startx >& /dev/null

Is this occurring because I have an unrecognized TV card? I assumed that I would at least get a window to open even without a recognized TV card...

The respawn problem is because it's having a problem with the X server setup (windowing system). Search for a posting by Dale (aka rdt) on how to disable it so you can fix the configuration, the keyword to search for is "telinit".

OK, I found several topics that say that I should use telinit 1 to drop to single user mode and stop X entirely. I've done this and I no longer get the respawning attempts. Now, how do I go about fixing the configuration?

Should be linked from the same posts. Failing that see the BlackScreenAfterInstall page on the wiki.

This problem is solved. My initial problem was apparently identical to another that was posted after mine: Knoppmyth wont run after installation :-(. The fix to this problem also fixed my problem. Now I just have to work out some hardware issues...
