Hi I have a problem with my knoppmyth box its suddenly stopped working for no reason that I understand. I've only been watching tv and dvds on it and (read not working on it at all) and I switch it on last night and I get the following error
Code:
mysql failure Error 2002 (HY000) Can't connect to local server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.socket'

This is what happens when I run mythbackend
Code:
2007-07-02 08:11:41.968 Using runtime prefix = /usr
2007-07-02 08:11:42.033 New DB connection, total: 1
2007-07-02 08:11:42.036 Unable to connect to database!
2007-07-02 08:11:42.036 Driver error was [1/2002]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
QSqlQuery::exec: database not open
2007-07-02 08:11:42.092 DB Error (KickDatabase):
Query was:
SELECT NULL;
No error type from QSqlError?  Strange...
2007-07-02 08:11:42.145 Failed to init MythContext, exiting.

I don't know much about mysql I went to /var/run/mysqld/ to see if I could see mysqld.sock but it is not present in the dierctory

Spewing cause I was pretty happy with my knoppmyth setup and it's gone broke lol

well if anyone has any pointers that'd be great

Thanks in advance

I would assume that MySQL is not up and running. What does
Code:
ps -ef | grep sql
show? If you don't see mysql entries in that output, what do you see if you try to start MySQL from the command line with
Code:
/etc/init.d/mysql start

Did you make any changes to the system like installing software, changing network settings, etc.?

Well I switched it on this morning and it worked booted in to the media player no worries.

It has to be something to do with the ip addresses that my modem/router assigns as it had changed.

Though this changing of ip has happened before and confused the media center it is usually a simple fix (i.e. change the config IP address and it works) this time however this was not the case

Thanks very much for your reply though I'm just stoked its up and working again

:D

Any reason you aren't using a static IP? Or even a "fixed DHCP" address based on the MAC address of your NIC? Seems to me either of those would solve the problem once and for all...
