I'm not sure if this is an issue with my tuner or video card. All the menus look fine(except for the huge fonts and slight overscan), but when I go to watch tv, some of the channels come in mostly fine, but others are really messed up.

I'm not sure how to describe it. It shows the picture, but the picture jumps around a lot, and it reminds me of when the old rabbit ears weren't aligned right.

Anybody have any suggestions? It all worked fine in the old version, with the exception of having to make the 720x480 change.

Sounds like a tuning problem. Did you double check that you're using the right frequency table?

I'm using what I got from SD. How would I check to make sure the table is right?

The channel frequency table setting in mythtv-setup -> General (or in Video Sources -> <your video source>. I had to change from us-cable to us-cable-irc to get all my channels to tune properly.

That didn't work. Tried cable, cable-hrc, and cable-irc. HRC was all black and white, and irc was messing up about as bad as the default cable.

Bad cable/connection/splitter? Does it look OK directly hooked up to the TV?

Did you do a channel scan by any chance? I've read many posts of folks that did for their analog cards and all sorts of odd things show up...

Standard diagnostic protocol then...

Did you go through all the IVTV related items in the R5F27 hints and the BlackScreenWatchingTV troubleshooting page on the wiki?

Have you redone your card definitions to fix stale DB entries and powered down cold for long enough to clear the old firmware?

Log file extracts with hardware detection details?

Nope. I didn't change any of the hardware, and it worked fine in R5E50. No channel scan either.

Nope, haven't checked the wiki. Did a complete reinstall, so there were no old entries.

BTW - What did you do for the 720x480 change? Did you correct all of your PVR recording profiles, or at least the ones you're using? Did you power off to clear the old firmware?

Details matter here. We can't help effectively without 'em. If I ask four things and you only answer two it doesn't help.

I just changed the res from 480x480 to 720x480. I only did that so that when I watch things later, they won't be square. AFAIK, it's not required for this version. I rebooted in between each change from cable to hrc and irc.

I'll see if I can grab the log files when I get home tonight. I know it's not splitters or anything, as everything was working before I did the wipe and install.

If you haven't done so already, try increasing your bitrate for capture. On my system (PVR-500) I find that the initial/default settings tend to result in video with random junk/noise thrown in. I bump up the recording profile to a higher bitrate (I chose 8000, but YMMV).

I'm having a similar problem when recording, or watching TV. Most the channles are good, but some are discolored, jump around, and are blurry.

I also am using PVR-150's. I did a fresh install after not using the box for several months so I know the firmware had cleared too. I also increased the rit rate, and also resolution, but so far nothing has helped.

I did not "scan" the channles I just grabbed data from SD.

These are not the same. You don't need to reboot after changing those settings, just restart the backend, but what I was after was had you turned the power to the box totally off for at least a couple minutes since doing the upgrade. The pvr cards tend to hold their old firmware unless you do a cold, power off, shutdown. The new drivers require new firmware. If you don't power off, you don't get the new firmware (which the new drivers expect). If you don't get the new firmware the card and driver may not work together properly.
