I definitely wouldn't hold your breath. I don't thing the world record would come close to covering it.

Sorry for naive question, i am newbie around here.

Is there a way to get R5 alpha, in whatever state it may be?

I have Pundit-R, and after 2 weeks of trying to make everything work i am rather desperate to try anything. I'd be willing to provide feedback as necessary.

TIA,
Moshe

You need about 999 more posts.

Thanks for answers, i understand. I am starting to work on the rest of 999 posts right now :)

BTW, If not getting the alpha, does any of you know at least if Pundit-R with it's IGP 9100 is supported?

Also, any reason for this secrecy? After all, developing in the open does have advantages - you get feedback, patches, and some times more developers join the active development. You know, that open source type of thing ;)

998 to go. There is no secrecy, just limited access. The beta will be open to all. Kernel support for the ATI chipset has improved, so yes.

Thanks for the answer. When you say chipset support, i know eth and the dma for ide are in, but what about tvout? Is it sorted out?

So far i tried:

fglrx drivers - doesn't work well with X.org (i guess that's what R5 will use)
radeon driver - doesn't do tvout
vesa - not suitable for playing video
fb - same as vesa, and harder to configure
radeonfb - couldn't make it work
vga->scart connector - didn't try that one yet, will build it as a last resort (don't even know if it'll help, cause the tv isn't multisync. Finding a modeline that works may not be easy)

Tha's actually the reason i wanted to try R5 as early as i could.... (997 to go :) )

Well we've always said to quote cesman "avoid ati like the plague" As far as I know there have been no advancements in tvout capabilities. That is beyond our control. Any dissapointment in that area should be expressed directly to ATI, however I do believe their newer fglrx drivers are supposed to have tvout and they have more support for some igp's.

And no I do not believe that R5 will use Xorg. Debian has not moved to Xorg yet, so that would just be too big of an undertaking for basically nothing gained at this point.

Agreed, i should've researched, and i already posted a customer feedback (that probably has a delete rule applied in some outlook somehwere in ATI) regarding the issue. I have been a big fan of ATI cards for a long time, ever since the Mach series they've been very reliable for me. Old habits are slow to die i guess.

As for not using X.org, may actually be great news for me, as i know people did have success with XFree86 4.3. Would R5 use 4.3 or some other version? (I guess i'd just have to downgrade if it's higher than that).

A bit off topic question, anyone here tried the vga-scart solution?

"Search" is your friend. I entered "scart" and got 14 threads. OK, 13 plus this one. Also check http://gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/ for more general MythTV questions and answers.
