There is no plan to drop 32 bit. Once things are done and settled, maintaining 32 and 64 should not be too difficult. Of course, we have to get to that point.

I doubt they would ever drop support for the i386 architecture.

I know the joy of linnux and even KM is the ability to do something useful with ancient hardware, still x86-64-bit hardware has been available for about 5 years, and is now pretty much mainstream.

We know 32-bit is going to go away eventually.

Currently, LinHES is i686 or higher.

I didn't know this, is there a reason that we can't use one of these kernels OOTB with LH? I am fairly adamant about only running one server 24x7 but I need to run more stuff than just LH. So either I load up LH with extra stuff (which would require doing things I shouldn't like installing stuff from the core repos) or I run VMs, either way but esp. with the latter, I need more than 3.5GB....

See my little guide earlier in the thread for how to do exactly this with the ArchLinux kernel. It's not exactly "out of the box", but pretty much all you have to do is download Arch's x86_64 kernel and x86_64 LIRC and NVIDIA video drivers, extract them, and copy the contents to the correct places. It works great, even with the userland still at 32 bit. In fact, I've read that at this point, with not every piece of software out there being 64-bit ready, 64 bit kernel/32 bit userland is the best way to go.
