Okay closing in on a finished product here. Well as finished as this can get atm
1.) Mythweb works but I have a question. I go to the recorded prgrams page and it displays all the shows I have recorded with a thunbnail. so far so good. I click on the thumbnail and I am guessing I should see the program streaming to me. What I get is a bad url page from Apache.
The requested URL /mythweb/video_dir/1062_20050302043000_20050302050000.nuv was not found on this server.
When I look at the myth box the requested .nuv file is actually stored in /myth/tv/ . Is there a path setting that is wrong somewhere? What do need to change and how would I accomplish this?
2.) Possible connected issue. When I go into the recorded programs menu on Myth box I can select a recording and hit the "m" button. I brings up a menu that allows me to run jobs. I tell it to run the commercial skip job and it appears to run. At least I get no errors on the mythbackend status page, it shows the job running. However when I start the transcode job it errors. I see no changes whatsoever on the myth box but I see an error on the status page. Anyone wanna explain what the transcode button is supposed to do?
3.) I seem to remember a notice flashing by when I set this up originally that I needed to run some set up programs for nuv2disc. Are these the /myth/nuv2disk/nuv2disc.sh and the /myth/nuv2disk/systemcheck.sh? If so what do I need to do with them?
Okay back to searching for answers:)

1) yes this is broke right now and we know it things are pointed at the wrong place, even if they weren't mythweb does not "stream" by default. There are some hacks I believe to make it do so, but it's not a simple process. you can try searching the forum I know it's been covered.
2) transcode is supposed to convert a show from mpeg2/mpeg4/rtjpeg to mpeg4 and remove the commercials. not sure why it is erroring out for you would be easier to know if you actually told us the error. Biggest problem with it is that the default is sometimes to transcode to rtjpeg instead of mpeg4 and it makes gigantic files. also commercial detection is not always so great, so you may loose some of your show if you don't edit the cutlist.
3) you shouldn't have to run anything, you just have to edit one of the xml files to add the menu. I can't remember the exact file or what to put in it at the moment. hopefully someone will come along and put specifics if not I'll dig it up later. I believe R5A12 is going to be a public release, and it adds this "out of the box"

I have been pretty happy with the commercial cutting so far.
Where would I find the log of these errors please. The only way i know it is erroring atm is the message on my Mythweb page, pressing the button on my mythtv box does nothing at all as far as I can see. And when it transcodes I assume it leaves the files in the recorded program line-up?

well the first place to look for error logs are /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log and /var/log/messages, but you say you see an error somewhere, so hopefully wherever that is you see more than just error. linux is generally pretty good about not just saying error failed.

Not in this case. I see the error on the status page of Mythweb. All it says is job transcode error.. Will be checking those logs tommorrow methinks. I think I am at the point where I need to go dive into the MythTV operation stuff pretty hard. I find that I really need more info on how to drive this puppy now that its mostly functional.
I must say that this has been a great experience so far.. The people here are friendly and helpful to those of us that are Linux challenged. This is not always the case on Linux boards.
Oh yeah X you were correct about that NX Client starting another instance of mythfrontend. I went through the whole page still a couple things to try very neat little package if I can get it to run correctly.
lirc is going to be the bane of this installation it seems. I know for a fact the remote works I had it working under an XP installation before I deleted it for KnoppMyth. I have tried every solution I can find here and on the wikki with no joy. irw tells me connection refused from any log in I have tried. Will be watching the board closely for a fix..

still not sure what you are talking about on the "status page of mythweb" I am guessing the backend status page. I have never personally seen an error on there. what does it say just error with nothing else? if so what section is the error in? my backend status page has encoder status, schedule, job queue, machine info, and dvb signal.
not sure what your lirc problem is. I know of some problems with is not loading "out of the box", but once you get it loading on startup and have a valid file(for those with the silver remote) I haven't heard of any problems. have put the lirc_ic2 in /etc/modules, and done something like bootmisc to load lirc on boot? if this sounds greek to you please search the forum it has been covered about 2001 times now.

job queue is where it is, and yes it just says error. Will look deeper tommorrow as the machine is recording atm. Going to try to get into the recorded program editing and see if it works that way. I know for a fact if you trigger the transcode from the Recorded Programs page with all the info and thunbnails it gives me the error on the back-end status page but appears to do nothing on the myth box. I have not tried it from within playback yet.
As far as the lirc is concerned, none of that sounds greek I have pretty much been up and down those pages and followed most of the instructions including all the editing, file creation and all that. Gonna start over tommorow and try it all again. I did find the right script for the silver remote and got it edited and installed correctly. And yes I have been all over the wikki too. I suspect it is newbie error and I typo-ed somewhere. I do most of the work from a ssh shell and ssh file transfer window on my XP box. That way I can cut and paste stuff and it helps me to have a graphical file manager since I am not familiar with the Linux file structure just yet
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not going to be my last KnoppMyth box. I was pricing Shuttles today

Just remember that shuttles tend to only have one PCI slot, meaning one tuner. My first mythbox was shuttle-based, before I realized that USB tuners weren't currently supported.
The current box under construction has 5 PCI slots...and is slated for 4 tuners...
Shuttles should be good quiet front ends, but are also a bit on the pricey side, I think.
