With a few minor changes, I was able to compile AMD64 packages for MythTV based on Cesman's changes. You can download the diffs here:

MythTV AMD64
MythPlugins AMD64

I had to make a few minor changes in order to get them to compile on Ubuntu, but the resulting debs install on Ubuntu Dapper Drake and should also install on Debian proper, and their derivations (aka Knoppix, Kanotix, etc.) Changes include:

- changing references from i586 to k8 (aka AMD64)
- adding dependency options for Ubuntu and Debian style package-naming
- removed CXX=distcc references (my dev environment does not use distcc, and this was the easiest remedy)
- removed libdts support (probably an Ubuntu-specific issue)

I was able to cleanly compile all of the mythtv and mythplugin packages with these diffs. I was able to install all of them except for mythtv-database (and consequently mythtv and mythplugins which depend on mythtv-database) because of an error trying to update mysql. I don't think that this is related to these debs specifically, but a fairly common probably that I've had in the past trying to update mythtv.

The MythTV debs get installed in the second phase after you reboot from the HD... In case you're short on sleep and not firing on all cylinders that implies that they're on the HD too. It shouldn't be hard to locate them, and if you look you should find them right were you'd expect... BTW - This also implies that you can access them from the CD just like you would get any other file off of it...

Hi,

I followed the instructions for upgrading an R5A16 Knoppmyth and it worked OK. Thanks for the updates!

I ran into the same problem a previous poster did with having to remove the libmyth-0.18-dev deb before I could install the libmyth-0.19-dev deb. That was an easy fix with:

apt-get remove libmyth-0.18-dev

It is implicit that the original instructions are done as user mythtv rather than root. I noticed that when I read the instructions beforehand but even still I started as root until I realised that wasn't what I meant to do. I do not know if it would matter or not but I wanted to be safe so I switched to user mythtv.

I ran into the "no distcc" errors so I did a

apt-get install distcc

The only other problem I had was I kept running out of space until I did an

apt-get update
apt-get autoclean

which purged the /var/cache/apt/ of all its outdated debs and that helped a lot.

which worked seamlessly after that. Overall, the procedure worked pretty good.

Compared with 0.18, MythTV 0.19 is nice. One odd thing I noticed is the deinterlace bob 2x mode is different. It worked great in 0.18 but was awful in 0.19, the frame rate was smooth but the color was smeared and it looked like 50% of the scan lines were missing. I switched to kernel deinterlace and that works really nice and smooth.

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

cecil - I have R4V5 running with MythTV .19 that I built and installed from source, all is working fine. What do the diff's do for the source on knoppmyth besides being able to build the deb? In other words, are the diff's that you are providing soley for being able to build the deb or does it add some stability or anything else to the MythTV source for installling it on Knoppmyth?

Thanks

The diffs included the KnoppMyth menu entries and the various build options (EIT, DVB, XvMC, etc.).

Tried and tested, at least as far as MythTV went (didn't do plugins yet), with no problems on R5B7. I had to upgrade to svn for a fix on PAL tvout on a PVR350:

I've added a link to this thread to the wiki because its a better way of upgrading MythTV, due to the KM diffs.

EDIT: Plugins OK too.
