So can anyone who has there HD working post the modeline and type of tv/input they are using.

I'm using:

TV: Sony 46" KP-46WT500
Input: DVI
Vid Card: nvidia 6200
Modeline: Can't get one to work :((((

I've been trying for months but just end up giving up. I've tried the powerstrip etc...and no luck. I'm to the point where I might go out and buy a new tv ..hahah

If you're trying to get the 1080i output thru DVI, you are out of luck...for now anyway. It's possible to get 1080i thru VGA, but not DVI. There's a lengthy thread in this forum for the 8174 drivers that touches on it. Nothing has changed 1080i/DVI wise with 8178.

I'm running 1080i through DVI just fine. Who told you it can't be done? some sets might not accept it that way, but you can push it out.

Really? Hmmmm... I'll have to look into that further...

I will say I have seen lots of people having TROUBLE getting DVI to work with 1080i, but I think it's mostly due to nVidia driver issues. The 7xxx driver in particular was bad (I think). There is no technical reason why DVI shouldn't be able to handle 1080i. I think some folks may be confusing the issue with the dual-DVI requirement for signals that are higher resolution. Maybe starting at 1080p and up. For example, the new Dell 30-in flat-panel display requires a dual-DVI interface to operate at full native resolution.

I am doing a fresh install of R5B7 and as per the advise of this thread trying to upgrade my nvidia driver.

I am upgrading it not to get HD quality but X won't start at all, looking at the log its a problem with the nvidia module, if I change it to the nv module X starts fine but with no OpenGL support of course, when I try to do the "install-nvida-debian.sh 1.0-8178" I get a complaint about not being able to find the kernel source. any ideas? I haven't tweaked at all so its a standard install, other poeple must be having the same problem

My 9A60 came today (Thanks Human!) and OH MY GOD.
Real-deal 1080i. Just about all of my modelines for 1080i worked, without having to fool with the "ignore edid" thing.

My XF86Config-4 was defaulting to 24-bit color, and until I changed to 16, it was giving me a weird split screen. The left edge of the desktop was right smack in the center of the screen, and it wrapped around. So it was like the two sides of the screen were swapped. I switched to 16-bit, and that fixed it.

Right now, Myth is great, both the GUI and the playback. I was able to stop doing the deinterlacing, which was previously needed to avoid rippling or whatever you call it when telephone poles look wavy during a horizontal pan.
Now that's all looking good without the deinterlacing, playback is nice and smooth for 1080i and 720p HD shows.

The only problem is with Fluxbox. It's using tiny fonts, and I can't get it to use larger ones. I'm trying to pick other fonts in /usr/share/fluxbox/styles but it's not seeming to have an effect. I wonder if I need to install some other fonts, or pick different fonts. I can't really read the fluxbox menu, and although FireFox is nice and big, I can't read it either. Sumptin wrong there. But for watching TV, it's a big improvement. Slideshows look awesome too. Especially with the new recursive option in .19. MythMusic visualization for "goom" needed a tweak. Too much resolution for it to handle. I had to use the 2x scaling on it, and that fixed it. Essentially letting it do the same 960x540 job that it did before by doubling the pixels. Looks the same (great) as before.

I'm very happy so far. I would recommend the 9A60 for anyone having trouble getting more than 540p out of DVI.

Is there a GUI control panel (or a command line function, or config file) where I can set the output resolution for nvidia 6150 chipset?

During my "build/debug phase" I'm connected to an LCD monitor at 1024x768, so I've not seen any resolution higher than this yet.

I've got an Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard and plan to use the onboard video to generate 1080i for my Sony projector (the projector displays 1080i wonderfully from an RCA DTC-100 HDTV tuner). I updated the nvidia drivers to version 8178 and have graphics in X Windows.

Any direction?
Eric

There should be such a GUI function in the upcoming release of the nvidia
driver, according to my sources. There's also nvidia-xconfig, a
command-line-based app which allows for quick configuration of settings
in your X config. file. For more info, do "man nvidia-xconfig" to get help.
Oh, and since nvidia-xconfig makes changes to your X config file, don't
forget to make a backup of it before you start hacking away.
