Without detail this is just a wild guess, but it you're running an older version, the most likely cause is that the setting for your ring buffer size is bigger than available space in the /cache partition. Somebody posted commands you can use to check this several months back.

Anyway, I have a similar, but slightly different issue running R5 Alpha 30.2.
Everything works really well, but approx 10-15% of the time when exiting watching a recorded show, the frontend quits to the desktop. Backend stays up ok though. One thing I have noticed is that it occurs less frequently if I give the GUI more time to display the various "do you want to save / delete" dialogs before pressing buttons ?

I have actually been running the frontent via a term session for a while (simply to make it easier to restart ! [up arrow & enter on kybd] ), but I've not had time to capture and analyse the logs.

I will post later this week when I get back from my travels.

This has all happened since I did a fresh install on both frontend and backend machines to version R5B7 this never happened on the previous version. I can also connect using program finder and also schedule recordings on the backend but nothing. Anyone have a fix for this?

Update: I have also ran the mythbackend -v important while connecting from the frontend and here is the output from that:

The funny part is when I try a frontend only install from knoppmyth none of this happens Livetv works perfect and so does everything else. :evil:
