I streamlined and fixed the above code block. Everyone please try this out and let me know if it works. If it does, it'll go into the patcher:
Code:
cd /root
wget http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/xmltv/xmltv-0.5.48.tar.bz2
tar xjf xmltv-0.5.48.tar.bz2
cd xmltv-0.5.48/
perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/usr --default
make
make install
cd /usr/share/perl5
/bin/mv -f XMLTV XMLTV.orig
/bin/mv -f XMLTV.pm XMLTV.pm.orig

My version is:
Code:
tv_grab_na_dd --version
XMLTV module version 0.5.44
This is tv_grab_na_dd.in version 1.46, 2006/12/20 15:31:13

But I seem to be successfully downloading guide data from schedules direct. Does the old version of xmltv do the job or does mythfilldatabase somehow accessing the correct version? Do I need to make this change?

I did the update from sources last week, and as of this morning I show:
Code:
joe@joesmyth:~$ tv_grab_na_dd --version
XMLTV module version 0.5.44
This is tv_grab_na_dd.in version 1.54, 2007/08/20 21:35:05

I tried just this portion of your code above: (as root)
Code:
cd /usr/share/perl5
/bin/mv -f XMLTV XMLTV.orig
/bin/mv -f XMLTV.pm XMLTV.pm.orig

And now I get:
Code:
joe@joesmyth:~$ tv_grab_na_dd --version
XMLTV module version 0.5.48
This is tv_grab_na_dd.in version 1.54, 2007/08/20 21:35:05

I then manually ran mythfilldatabase, and confirmed success there.
Is that sufficient to verify your patcher update or do you need the whole thing run end-to-end?

I'd feel safer about the code if it was run end to end, but it's probably fine as is. It worked for me, and as general as it is, I'd be surprised if it didn't work for everyone.

After running this upgrade I was able to get data from Schedules Direct (woohoo!) however, oddly, now it doesn't record sound from my PVR-350. Sound works, overall, because old recordings (pre-upgrade) play sound, but anything newly-recorded doesn't have sound. Anyone encounter this or have any suggestions for me? Is there a way to "re-init" the PVR-350? I guess I should mention I didn't drop the video source entirely, I just changed where the source gets its listings from. Should that matter?

Human, I ran it end-to-end with only 1 change. I ran it with the current working directory set to /myth/tmp instead of /root. Of course, I was logged in as root. It worked.

The only thing that puzzles me is that my system was working fine with version 0.5.44 of xmltv...

Interesting, I have a similar problem since doing the manual upgrade, followed cecil's initial posting to the letter on my R5E50 box, all went smoothly. I was able to playback previously recorded episodes, guide info was up to date etc. However new recordings are borked, ivtv is having problems and the backend is complaining of a lack of space, even though there is 46gb free. End result, live tv or any recordings since the upgrade have failed. I have 3 tuners, 2x pvr 150's and 1x pvr 250.

You have 46 GB free on /myth, I assume... but what about / ? It seems unlikely that the system would complain that it's out of space if it's not, at least in the event that you only changed MythTV and directly related apps.

A partition can run out of space OR it can run out of inodes. If you run out of inodes, you cannot create any more files even if you have a ton of free space. Check your inode situation by typing "df -i". The upgrade process creates a ton of files, and I ran out of inodes as the default installation is not designed to deal with a large number of small files.

If this is your problem, the only suggestion I can make is to delete each of the directory trees that you have built after you've done the "install" for it...

Hmm, going back through some of the rotated myth logs, I see this problem started prior to the upgrade :-(
