Hi Graysky,
I'm afraid not. Though I have not had very much time over the last week to do any tinkering or searching. Hopefully early next week I'll have a few hours to have a play. Probably Tuesday. I know tjc questioned whether the intelfix switch was still needed in his install/upgrade guide to 5.5. I'm not sure if that was ever answered. I'm wondering if it isn't. I used it when upgrading and later on a fresh install. Perhaps it is redundant. Did you friend use the intelfix switch?
Mind you, I'm clutching at straws at this stage.
I'm looking into getting my old system up and running again as a test system, though this an old amd system and use that to cross reference but if I can get that running properly and get it to use mythwelcome I may go back to that for the interim...
I will post back with any progress.
Catch you later.

...is it possible that an older machine like the P3-500/440BX on which I recently installed a FE simply won't auto power off? It did under Windows.

Well, my machine has worked (ie powered up and down cleanly) under windows, and under ubuntu but not now. My current mythboxen is a Dual P4, 775 socket. (An abit A8W I think) I've the most recent BIOS for it. So quite recent.
I'm planning to spend an hour with my old mythbox (now test machine) and see if I can get that working.

Hi iscraigh,
Welcome to this little party. What's your system spec? Is this an intel problem? There must be some commonality here.
For me this is a show stopper because I want MythWelcome to work, so I can save some power and £££ on electricity costs.
Chris

No it is an athlon 2500 on an Asus MB. Mine may be slightly different, it seems to hang shutting down X or right after I'm not sure where I fing the messages from shutdown but I will play today I hope.

Hi guys!
I used to have the same problem, but it went away when I decided to add functionality to power down from the remote. I wrote a small script and used the command:
Code: sudo halt
which I had seen in the menus somewhere. This worked every time, but powering down from the menu often left it running with a
Quote: system halted
message. I'm very happy with the result and only use the button on the remote and never shut it down from the menu any more, but it should be possible to change the shutdown command from the setup menus somewhere.
Cheers,
/Chris

So, from what people are saying...it's just random weirdness.
Anyhow, I dug out my old Athlon XP system. Installed 5.5 from the same burn of hte disk. Stopping from menus seems fine and though I've not tested fully, the mythwelcome-test-sh does what it should, so I'll be testing mythwelcome on this board tomorrow, or Tuesday.
Very odd though.I thought APCI was an industry standard these days.

Right, from a bit of fiddling around I seemed to have sorted it.
But not in the most satisfactory way.
I removed the Nova-T 500 and replaced it with my a second Nova-T that I had lying around. Admittedly I did an auto upgrade so I am not sure if this is related to it being installed with the card in or not. So it's not a definitive sorted. I did however use the same installation disk which checks out with the testcd option.
I am going to have a play with my test machine and see if I can replicate the issue. It is rather annoyingly as that mobo (an old Abit AN7) works with mythwelcome but it is incompatible with my 1Tb disk.
I suspect it is something to do with the usb connection to the two tuner cards on the Nova-T 500. But it needs further investigation. But I am so short of time at the moment I don't know when I'll get a chance to have a look at it.
Any one else out there with a dual DVB tuner card that can replicate this issue?
Many thanks
Chris
