If I'm not mistaken 0.17 depends on a newer version of QT which has long been the bane of apt-get in R4 series. this is corrected in R5. not only does it come with the newer QT also the apt sources.list has been cleaned up and apt-get upgrade or any other apt commands should work without any dependency problems.

Is that means if I'm installing the new QT, correct the source.list, I could install the debs for R5 ?

What are the issues to install the new version of QT ?

it's dependancy problems. just search the forums and you will find numerous people who have been bit by it trying to install one thing or other, and sometimes they can be overcome by forcing the packages, but sometimes this breaks stuff, and no just correcting the sources file in R4 will not fix it, because it already has packages installed from too many various conflicting sources.

Ok I did a couple of tests with R4V5 under VMware.

I did compiled succesfully MythTV 0.17 and common add-ons.

The system didnt complained about missing libs, but when I tried to compile mythbrowser it did.
I just did installed more or less the KDE dev kit (with the force flags and so on), It did complied.

Is that only for MythBrowser the missings deps ?

The next step will to try that on my "production" box, rsync will be my best firend to revert the changes in case of problems.

It may be only for mythbrowser at this point, but for a long time in the cvs before the official release of 0.17 it required newer qt libraries, there was talk of removing those dependencies and talk of leaving them in last I heard they were leaving them in, but they may have removed them last minute.

Just want to know :

Is there any updates for the 0.17 debs for r4v5 ?

Are you going to create the debs for 0.17 or 0.18 for r4v5 ?

Or the r4v* version are not supported any more ?

Thanks

Yhan

What are the results of the poll? Odds are, I won't be doing any more work on R4. Since the next release has a new kernel, it is best if folks auto upgrade. Things aren't quite to the point where you can apt-get update && apt-get get install mythtv-ix86-suite.

Has anyone successfully installed knoppmyth on VMWare for windows ???

Odd place to asked this question. Even if KnoppMyth were to install w/ VMWare, I'd won't recommend trying it. Last time I used VMWare, it didn't allow full access to the hardware. While you might have a whiz-bang video card, you could only use it a a normal vga card. This isn't optimal for MythTV.

I was only wanting to get Myth going under windows to get some screenshots for my website and documentation about getting knoppmyth going and how brilliant it is !!!!

So, I ask my question again, has anyone successfully installed Knoppmyth on VMWare, and if so how ?

Why not ask the real question which is "how do you get screenshots in Linux or more specifically under KnoppMyth". I'd like to know that.
