I ended up trying the metzlerbros drivers.. They appear to be working.. But I've had more problems.. System started hanging on boot at "starting web server".. I searched and it seems people fixed it by installing with vga mode or something.. But since I was already installed I didnt know what to do.. After three reboots the system booted...

Now I was able to see the card in myth tv but don't know how to set up the channels.. And the satellite setup screen took forever to figure out how to setup the lnbs until I just started hitting random keys and found out that the "m" key opened a whole new menu to set them up.. I mean damn.. At least that could be documented somewhere?!?! I've probably put 80 hours into this..

Anyhow now when I am trying to run the backend I get the error about "One of your capturecard entries does not have a host name. Please run setup and confirm all of the capture cards."

what does it mean confirm my capture cards??

Well gotta sleep for the night.. Tomorrows another day.. Hopefully I can get this up and running.. I've become addicted to getting this thing up and running...

i've installed phpmyadmin on my mythtv pc so i can easy edit the database.
#>apt-get install phpmyadmin

so have a look into the first tables. cardinput i think. there is a hostname for every input. is it set correct?

i think mythtv is a great project and works fine for one analog tuner card. but there some to be done for multiple cards especially dvb

I read a bit last night about editing the database.. I decided to just go through the card setup again.. Started by running setup, deleting all cards and then reset it up, and it worked.. I still haven't figured out how to setup any channels though.. I've gotten it to see a signal, but at about 50%, and no locking.. The signal is there at about 90% according to my ird..

Any help on how to setup the channels would be great.. Currently Im pointed in the 110 and 119 directions for dish.. Just trying to see anything at this point..

thanks..

now you have to enter the channel data the scan tool from linuxtv has found :-)
see some statements before.

i just have found a diff patch to switch between two capture cards, cause as described before, mythtv always uses the first card for viewing and the others for recording.

I have tried a lot of setting trying to get signal... I get signal but not over 50% and no lock?!!? Is there a setting somewhere for the nexus to turn on power to the LNB?? Could that be my problem?? I really don't want to give up but I feel like I've searched and read, and learned a lot of linux..

First of all: thanks to nigelpearson for the instructions.

I have found this posting because I am trying to use a AverTV DVB-T, too. I am not using KnoppMyth but Fedora Core 1. I hope this does not exclude me from this forum.

I used nigelpeason's instructions to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.6 without much problems. But I do not get my TV card up and running.
Since I did not find a configuration file for my location (Bremen, Germany, started DVB-T two weeks ago) I could not use the posted command
util/scan/scan util/scan/dvb-t/au-sydney_north_shore
(only Berlin is included for Germany but the channels are different there)

Instead I found a matching channels.conf file and put it into my ~/.tzap folder. Then I start
util/szap/tzap K22
K22 is one of the channels DVB-T is broadcasted here.

The output is:
---- cut ----
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
tuning to 482000000 Hz
video pid 0x0221, audio pid 0x0222

There is a delay of some seconds after the first line is printed. During this delay even the mouse stops moving.

The output of dmesg is

Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Especially the i2c_adapter error and the IRQ lockup do not look to good. But what do they mean, how do I resolve this?

Tried option 2, download a kernel a recompile.
I can't get my new 2.6 kernel to boot, I just get a blank screen.

I've compiled kernels before on Slackware and redhat, so I'm not a complete newbie, however I've not done it on debian before.

What do I do about initrd?
Do i need to create a new one, the process on here doesn't seem to do it. Do you use the current one or not use it at all?

well you either need to create a new initrd or not use one. one or the other.

Jon, I think "make install" actually does create an initrd in /boot for you. I will try to check at work tomorrow.

Of course, if your machine now does not boot, it will be tricky to get it working again. It is possible to use the install CD to repair it, but it was very hard (it took me a few hours, and that was the second time I did it). It would be nice if the installer had a "install a working kernel" option.

Hi,

I noticed another person had what seems to be a similar issue to me, unfortunately there is not an answer to the problem in this forum.

I have been searching in vain for some time trying to get my AverTV to work. I originally started with Xandros linux, then went to Mandrake 9.2 and I am now trying with Mandrake 10. I hope someone in this forum can help; even though I am not using KnoppMyth. If it had DVB-T support built in I would definitely give it a go straight away, but since it does not I will keep trying Mandrake for a while.

The kernel in Mandrake 10 is 2.6.3. I think this means the LinuxTV that includes support for the AverTV DVB-T is compiled into the kernel. If someone knows how I can check this please let me know.

When I do a dmesg I get the following output:
-- start --
Linux video capture interface: v1.00
bttv: driver version 0.9.12 loaded
bttv: using 12 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
bttv: Host bridge needs ETBF enabled.
bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:00:0d.0, irq: 17, latency: 32, mmio: 0xdd100000
bttv0: subsystem: 1461:0761 (UNKNOWN)
please mail id, board name and the correct card= insmod option to kraxel@bytesex.org
bttv0: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected]
bttv0: enabling ETBF (430FX/VP3 compatibilty)
bttv0: gpio: en=00000000, out=00000000 in=009f00dd [init]
bttv0: using tuner=-1
bttv0: i2c: checking for MSP34xx @ 0x80... not found
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA9875 @ 0xb0... not found
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA7432 @ 0x8a... not found
bttv0: registered device video0
bttv0: registered device vbi0
-- end --

I think this is telling me that the drivers are not configured properly.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Ty

Id not think so, since the same messages are shown in my dmesg output (see my posting above). But there are some modules still missing as far as I see. Did you do all the modprobes?

sudo modprobe bttv
sudo insmod dvb-core.o
sudo insmod bt878.o
sudo insmod dvb-bt8xx.o
sudo insmod sp887x.o

To me it looks like dvd-bt8xx and sp887 are missing which are the ones I modprobe before starting mythtv.

Hi,

Thanks thomashb for your response. I did a search for the files you mentioned and could only find these:
dbv-core.ko
bt878.ko
dvb-bt8xx.ko
sp887x.ko
I assume they are the same and Mandrake have changed the filename extension for some reason.

After I do the modprobe and insmod commands I get this result from lsmod:
-- start --
sp887x 7748 0
dvb-bt8xx 8644 0
bt878 12224 1 dvb-bt8xx
dvb-core 61780 2 sp887x,dvb-bt8xx

i2c-core 24292 3 dvb-bt8xx,bttv,i2c-algo-bit
videodev 10592 1 bttv
-- end --
As far as I can tell this looks good.

Unfortunately when I do a dmesg I get this result:
-- start --

Does this look right to you? I didn think I needed firmware for the AverTV DVB-T, but the last line indicates sp887x is looking for it...

I went ahead to the next step anymway. I downloaded the dvb apps and compiled them without any problems. Unfortunately when I run a scan I get this result:

That's right, you actually need some firmware for the AverTV. It is in the file sc_main.mc which gets installed by the Windows installer. So you need a Windows box, install the drivers and copy that file to the Linux directory mentioned in the dmesg output.

You should get a message like this in dmesg afterwards:
p887x_initial_setup: firmware upload... done.
