Well, I figured it out. Apparently the mythfrontend wasn't getting the correct focus, so I have to exit out of the frontend, then restart it and it's fine. I'm not 100% sure why that's happening but it's an easy fix.

Thanks for the help, and hopefully this will help other people if they're having problems.

You could always rename the ir_kbd_i2c module and reboot... The file looks like it's: /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13/kernel/drivers/media/video/ir-kbd-i2c.ko

BTW - It look slike an afwul lot of modules are being loaded for no good reason, I've got a pile of useless dvb and saa7134 stuff loaded when all the box has in it at the moment is a couple Hauppauge PVR cards...

The following command will produce a sorted list of unused modules.
Code:
lsmod | awk '$3 == 0 { print $1 }' | sort

I tried removing the module and I still have the same problem

Well, of course, now that I've thrown money at the problem, I seem to have fixed my Hauppauge remote. :?

Here's what I did in addition to the above module removal (which was not sufficient to fix my remote): not sure which of these things did it, if not all combined:

* Noticed that I had /etc/lirc/lircd.conf but not /etc/lircd.conf . I had backed up a version of /etc/lircd.conf and it was a symlink to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf . So I made another one:

Code:
ln -s /etc/lirc/lircd.conf /etc/lircd.conf

* Found this page:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_LIRC#lirc_ ... ation_file

which says that DEVICE should equal "/dev/lirc0" and not "/dev/lirc/0". In /etc/init.d/lirc , line 34, it indeed refers to /dev/lirc/0, so I changed it to /dev/lirc0.

* Also, in line 83 of /etc/init.d/lirc, there is a line that ends "$LIRCD_ARGS" That backslash didn't look right so I put a space there: "$LIRCD_ARGS "

Rebooted, and it's working. Go figure.

I've edited out the module in /etc/init.d and done all of this stuff and still no luck.

I have noticed when I run IRW with the frontend running it is unreliable but when I run IRW with the frontend killed I receive all of my signals perfectly. In fact, as long as I'm not watching live TV IRW receives all the signals but with live TV running it only receives about 1/3 of them

Any Ideas

For anyone that was having the same problem as me (disabling saa7134-dvb was the solution), upgrading to the latest release of IVTV might fix this problem without disabling the module.

Here's the post with the changelog and a successful upgrade:

That sure sounds like it will help to me. I've updated the ivtv 0.10.x instructions on the wiki. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv-0.10.0

Just a follow up to summarize this thread:

    1) Disable the loading of extraneous modules which can interfere with lircd getting a clean signal. This means renaming the modules mentioned near the beginning of this thread. Remember this won't change anything until you reboot.

    2) Upgrade to the newest ivtv drivers, at this point that's 0.10.3, but check their wiki for further updates. Following the directions above makes it quick and easy.

    3) Make sure you power off the machine COLD for at least a couple minutes to clear the old firmware. If there are any lights still lit (like the leds on your network port) it's not all the way off.

The best bet is to do all three steps in the sequence given above, which means you only need to reboot once. Total time should be less than 10 minutes.

In addition, don't forget to do all the usual physical checks; line of sight, batteries, connections, ... The plug for the Hauppauge remote sensor cable is notoriously finicky, and it's really easy to confuse the silver audio jack with the black remote jack.
