That's the whole point, any IR blaster ought to work. The common or garden variety serial (aka RS232) IR blaster is probably about the best supported and most straight forward to get working. You plug it into the serial port on your PC which powers and controls the transmitter LED.

There are a number of commercial ones like the ones at http://irblaster.info/or you can even build your own: http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html

Report. I looked at the cable out and thought I should mess around with this. I moved the spiliter from the original posistion(see the last page) to this

wall--Cable box-Cable out-
PC
TV

Wen't and scanned channels. Said the only channel was four. Thought that was ok since thats the default channel for my cable box. Wen't into Myth tv and tried, and still black screen. And I still am getting the MYTH_PROTO_VERSION error, I think it has something to do with my problems. Input?

That thing above was just a median try. Now I connected it how you wanted me to

Input: Wall --coax-> CableBox --composite-> CaptureCard ...
--audio--> 1/8"StereoJackOnCaptureCard ...

Output: VideoCard --svideo-> TV
SoundCard --audio--> TV

And I have to order the IR thing. Still getting black screen on watch tv. What should I try next? Also still puzzled by the MYTH_PROTO_VERSION. Search the forums again and didn't get anything.

What is this "previously" stuff? If your problem has been resolved, move on and start a new thread. Don't rename the thread for a different problem.

since you are using a pvr-250 that is being fed from a cable box, try this command: /usr/bin/ivtv-tune -c 4. I have two pvr-150 that loose the signal on one of the cards upon reboot. its always the one that is hooked up to the cable box. not sure why since it is set right in the input section of mythsetup . i'm working on a startup script so auto do this and my nvidia settings upon reboot. this is probably not the solution but worth a shot.

I found out according to some mythtv user on gossamer threads that setting your tuner channel under setup to 3 or 4 doesn't work. here is the thread:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... 083#188083

the ivtv command i referenced does this for you. its just a thought since this solved my problem with snow on my pvr-150. I have two pvr-150's one receiving a signal from cable box the other straight from the wall. the one with the cable box you just show snow until i issued the above command.

Sorry, I didn't mean to abandon you, I was just out of ideas and not able to spend enough time to come up with more. Also I don't have a cablebox in my system so anything I tell you is second hand.

I think it's time to start over from scratch...

1) You've already got a good zap2it labs account right? Go to http://labs.zap2it.com/ log in using your existing account, and make sure that you've got at a "line up" established that matches your cable feed.

2) Reinstall KnoppMyth.

3) When you get to mythtv-setup
    - Under Capture Cards - Define your PVR card with the default input set to the method you're getting input from the cable boxes output. In order of preference these are s-video (multi-pin round plug), composite (yellow RCA), and tuner (screw on coax).

    - Under Video Sources - Setup your zap2it feed, make sure you get the lineups and select the good one. Remember the're still no guide data until you run the mythfilldatabse later.

    - Under Input Connections - Associate the input selected for your card (s-video, composite, ...) with the video source. Be sure to set up an external tuner script to control your cable box. For testing purposes you can use /bin/true and tune the channels by hand. In the unhappy case where you're using a coax/tuner connection you'll also need to set the pretune channel (usually 3 or 4).

    - After you save all your settings and exit make sure that mythfilldatabase gets run successfully to provide guide data.

4) Upgrade to the latest drivers following the instructions on the wiki. Note that these have been updated again. After you reboot check the logs to make sure that the tuner is being recognized and the firmware is being loaded.

5) Manually tune the cable box to a good channel, and verify the output connection of the box that you intend to use with another device to make sure it works. Test the cables while you're at it.

6) Double check your connections and try watching live TV. Remember that you're probably going to have to tune the cable box by hand until you get a good control script (driving an IR blaster or ...).

Sorry to grave dig, but I have some other problems. I'm working on the things you described to me in the last post, but now, I can't access zap2it. I entered my info and pass, and I press recieve, it just flashes real quick and doesn't download the guides. What goin on?
