Thanks cesman, it worked like a charm, now I can use MythArchive for my mpeg4 recordings.
One note and one question though.
First the note; if you have a ATi card and used tjimenez87's method to get Xv and tv-out working, get rid of it before doing cesman's instructions, it screws up the dependencies.
Now the question; is there any way to automatically backup what I have just done? I have a slow connection and really don't want to download 111MB again if someting happens.

PundiGuy, on page 2 of this thread, a guy tried up upgrade C7 and it didn't work fully. TJC says in response to his query, and I'll quote "These were built for the R5Dx series which have a new kernel and slightly different library versions." and three posts later, Cesman (the main developer of knoppmyth) says in response to the guy trying to upgrade C7, and I'll quote "You should upgrade to D1."
Maybe that was more helpful.. Have a nice day. RTFM and all that..
End of story.

Pundiguy:
If you want to use R5C7 (like I am) follow these instructions:
Before you begin, you need to upgrade to gcc-3.3. Do NOT use gcc-4.0 as it will not compile MythTV properly. To upgrade to 3.3:
apt-get update
apt-get install gcc-3.3
This is the command to remove the .19 debs of MythTV .19:
dpkg -r libmyth-0.19 libmyth-0.19-dev mythtv mythtv-backend mythtv-common mythtv-database mythtv-debug mythtv-doc mythtv-frontend mythplugins mythburn-ui
Here are the instructions on builiding the .20a (.20-fixes) sources on Knoppmyth: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... hTVFromSVN
That's all to it. Will take you a little longer to get it going (building process) but at least you'll be able to use .20a on a R5C7 box.
If you want the knoppmyth menu's back, then there is a post on here somehwere (and if I am not mistaken, also on the wiki) on how to get them back.

I followed your instructions on page 1, after I upgraded to R5D1, and it works like a charm.
Thanks

I followed the instructions on the first page after upgrading to R5D1. Everything seems to be working except for recording. I can see all of my old recordings schedules & priorities in "Recording Schedules" page in MythWeb, but "Upcoming Recordings" is blank in both MythWeb and in the frontend. I can't get it to record anything. I've deleted and re-configured my capture cards, rebooted, run mythfilldatabase, tried mythbackend --resched. mythbackend --testsched gives me a valid schedule, but nothing records, regardless.
Edit: Turns out on my original install I set the hostname to 'mythbox' and on the upgrade I left it 'mythtv'. After changing the hostname in the backup database to 'mythtv' and restoring the database I was able to get it working.

This is perhaps an SVN question but....
the result of mythbackend --version gives 11178M, but the 11178 changeset is not in the mythtv0.20-fixes, but in a softpad branch. Is this "normal" ?

Unless you sync to a particular changeset, this number is the highest changeset at the time the SVN tree is synced. I think Cecil just gets the latest on the branch using "svn co" rather than "svn co -r NNNN".

Thanks tjc,
What I didnt get was that 11178 changeset isnt on that branch ... or doesnt it work like that ?
Back to the thread:
Is there a general fix for 0.20 themes and fonts. I have had a lot of little niggles because the theme or the font I have chosen in 5B7, then upgraded to 5D1 and 0.20 doesnt exist or isnt found. I think it is also causing an install of xfe to fail, due to font issues.

It doesn't work like that. If you do an "svn co" or "svn update", without requesting a specific changeset, it reports the highest changeset anywhere in the tree. I don't know why, but would guess it has something to do with the simplifying the internal version bookkeeping.

I also am having these problems. Are we the only two or did we both miss the fix?

Im having problems after recently upgrading my laptop and xbox from version 0.19 to 0.20 they appear to be running mythtv 0.20.1 http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Release_Notes_-_0.20.1 which of course has a protocal change. Hos can i upgrade my 0.20 install on knoppmyth to 0.20.1 any chance of cecil updating the packages? As id prefer not to compile from source.

My backend is R5D1 with .20 installed according to this post. I have an FC6 frontend with MythFrontend installed from AtRPMs version 20-142. The frontend reports a protocol version mismatch. How do I either update my backend or downgrade my frontend? Which version is on my backend? Thanks for the great work!

Joel, according to Cecil, one page on if this thread, the version is 11184 SVN. I'd assume your version is too old. If you're just wanting the myth frontend, you will either need to find some updated RPMs, compile .20 SVN yourself, or change to a distro that has an up to date RPM. I currently run opensuse 10.1 which has up to date enough RPMS, and are working as a slave backend and frontend with my knoppmyth master backend just fine.

It seems that my frontend is newer than my backend. The message tells me that the backend is running 30 and the frontend only understands 31 so I think I need an older version to install on the frontend. I don't know where to find older versions. ??? Thanks for the reply.

I'm currently running R5A16. Can I upgrade it directly to .20 using the instructions on page 1? I read most of this thread but it's not clear how far back one can go and still have a successful upgrade.
Thanks!
