Post subject:  Watch Videos does not play avi, mpeg

Hello,

I have a remote frontend and seperate backend running RB57. I setup networking and can watch livetv and recordings with no issue on the frontend. I setup NFS as per the instructions on the wiki and have configured the setup so that I am pointing to the mnt/myth/video share. I also ran the Video Manager for setup. Finally I can browse the videos (I put the avi in the video folder)and checked to make sure that mplayer startup is configured.

When I click on the video I get brief flash of loading video but it does not work. Yesterday after lots of fiddling it did work. It was playing the videos fine.
However I think I rebooted the frontend and it is not working now.

I dont think it is a permission problem but I could be wrong. Can anyone help.

for some reason on my box the path of the default player command was /usr/local/bin instead of
/usr/bin/ -- Once I changed it my video started working..

Don't forget to install all the extra codecs you may eventually need. It's frustrating downloading video clips from the internet and they're in 1 out of 1000 codecs but they all say .avi. www.mplayerhq.hu has the codec pack you can easily install.

thanks guys I checked both of these as per searches on the board. Mplayer is current and the path seems correct.

Like I said somehow I got it to work.

Hello can someone tell me what logs I can check to see why it is not allowing the frontend to play the files.

If you rebooted and it is no longer working, perhaps the partition isn't mounted?

That is a good tip.

I was thinking the same thing cesman. I always use linneighborhood to find and define samba mount points and write them to the fstab. Might want to include it with the install if it isn't already part of it.

Thankyou Cecil... You were right it was unmounted. I think I mounted and unmounted. I need to tail the backend to make sure.

I see a wierd issue whenever I reboot the frontend. I unmount the nfs share.

In the log i see this. How should I set the frontend up to not to do this.

Jun 6 20:35:11 mythtvmasterbackend rpc.mountd: authenticated unmount request fr om 192.168.11.6:750 for /myth (/myth)

As you have a different issue, a different thread please. Perhaps reading up on LinHES as well...
