Hello people, first thanks for the KnoppMyth distribution as it has allowed Linux newbies like me to get to experiment with such a great piece of PVR software. :) I do have a couple of questions however:

1) nForce4 HD audio is detected by ALSA but does not work. The chipset is apparently compatible with the driver for Intel HD Azalia audio (snd_hda_intel). I tried updating the ALSA drivers using apt-get but this messed up the configuration files in "/etc/modprobe.d/". Since then I have reinstalled and I am using a Creative card based on the Emu10K1 chipset for the moment. Has anyone else had any luck with nForce4 audio (Realtek ALC880 codec)?

2) Channel listings did not originally work until I used apt-get to install a newer version of XMLTV and the "tv_grab_uk_rt" script. Channel listings are now recieved but the channels themselves are not being tuned. I have tried a manual tune but no channels are detected. I am using a WinTV Nova-T (not the new Conexant one). I resorted to the "dvbscan" command line tool to create a channels.conf file to import into MythTV however this creates separate channels that are not linked with the channels imported from the listings.

Any help regarding these problems will be much appreciated. :)

This should have probably been posted in KnoppMyth -> Hardware, just so you know :)

I'm working on making nForce4 audio work through optical S/PDIF, and it's working, though I'm often getting a quick audio pop at the start and end of playback.

The nForce4 audio chipset is the CK804, and it uses the snd_intel8x0 kernel module. You'll need a good /etc/asound.conf and possibly need to seed the soundcard's state with a good asound.state.

1) Grab the asound.state from here and follow the instructions on loading it into your card. (NOTE: I'm not sure this is necessary; it certainly must have been at some point, but I haven't tried not doing it yet.)

2) Grab the .asoundrc from here and save it as /etc/asound.conf. Modify it by changing the digital-hw from 1 to either 0 or 2. (Not sure why both work.)

3) Tell MythTV to use audio device ALSA:digital. When using mplayer, add flags "-ao alsa:device=digital -ac hwac3, "

4) Either unload snd_intel8x0 and re-load it (rmmod / modprobe) or reboot.

As I said, I'm still often getting audio pops at the start and end of playback. BUT if I can help you and others get the nForce4 digital optical audio working, maybe we can collectively fix the pops :)
