I'm in Perth , Western Australia hence the PAL resolution mentioned. Just a quick question. I was under the impression that if I recorded shows from channels 20, 30, 70, 90, and 12 (Channel 2, SBS, Seven, 9 and Ten HD Respectively) I would wind up with a High Definition recording. I.E. one that spans beyond 720i. However, once I look at the recorded streams, all my applications which show info related to a transport stream file tell me the resolution is only 720x480. Now, in the land before MythTV when I was using the WinDTV application that came with the Twinhan card, my recordings were at the resolution of whatever the source material was. I've tried recording the Channel Seven high resolution demo loop (which I KNOW is in true high definition), but the recording still only seems to show 720x576... What gives, can MythTV not record HDTV? or does it simply NOT by default and I have to throw a setting somewhere? Regards, Ramrunner |

In adelaide, the only channels that do 1080i are 9 and 10. 7, ABS and SBS all use 576p [corrected after seeing red321's post from 720p] as their "high definition", so the resolution would indeed be 720x576, just progressive rather than interlaced. In fact I think that 9 and 10 actually do 1440x1080i instead of the full 1920x1080i (and of course only at 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz that they get in NTSC land). |

oops, your right. thats even worse. They pass off 576p as "high definition". |

Maybe the files are being transcoded automatically to 480p?? P. PS: I'm also in Perth, WA... maybe we should get together to discuss our Myth/Knoppmyth experiences? |

Well, I did make a typo and I meant of course 576p. However, you may be on to something here. As a test, I'll try recording the channel 7 demo loop again, and make sure the transcode flag is not set. Good thinking. I'll let you know the results. Ed. |

Try recording something from channel 9 or 10. As I said earlier, their "high def" is actually a higher resolution. |
