Well, I finally took the time to setup my myth box. It's working great for the PVR aspects, but I have a few questions related to upgrading and usage, and while I've looked through the docs, I can't seem to find what I'm looking for... 1. Adding a second pvr-150 tuner. How hard is this to do with a working setup, without breaking everything? What steps must I take? 2. DVD Menus w/ remote I have the setup so I can play purchased DVDs, but I can't use the remote (silver remote that came with PVR-150) to flip through menus, or do much once it's playing...is there a way to fix this? 3. Samba shares with write access I can see the mythbox from my windows pc, but I can't seem to get it to allow me to upload files to the videos directory! I've got webmin installed, and setup my user to have write access, it just doesn't seem to want to work! 4. "Extra" recordings When I am watching some live TV, then backout and go into the watch media folder, I see shows I had recorded on purpose, but also fragments of what I was just watching...why are these temporary recordings showing up? I keep deleting them since they are just making a mess. 5. Remote functionality It works for some things, but not others...is it possible to have the top names buttons link to areas of myth, so I can just go straight to music or videos from wherever I am without a bunch of navigation? 6. Burning DVDs Before I had Xine running with the plugin to allow encrypted DVDs to play, I attempted to burn a DVD...which ended up not being playable on my regular DVD player. I haven't tried since... What do I need to do, to be able to burn a show I've taped to a DVD that can be played on a regular DVD player? 7. Cutting commercials Oh...and how do I get myth to cut commercials out when recording...I thought I had it set to do that...but apparently not. ...that's all for now. I know it's alot, but I'd really like to get this all working perfectly...so that other people can use it without getting confused, or pestering me :p |

Well, I can help answer a few of these... 1) I added a pvr-150 to my current system a little while ago. You'll need to run mythtv-setup and add the tuner in, otherwise it should work. 2) the ~/.mythtv/lircrc file has the navigation options for xine or mplayer, whichever you use for your DVDs. I found with my pvr-150 that my remote was outputing different values than were supplied with the lircrc file that goes with the dog-bone remote. You may want to run irw and see what your remote is putting out, and/or check to make sure the keys you want to navigate with are set properly in lircrc 3) No help here, I use NFS for all my sharing needs 4) There's a setting in setup -> TV Settings -> Playback -> 4th page, there's a check-box that says "Show 'Live TV' recordings when using "All Programs" filter'. If that's checked, that's why you're seeing those; just uncheck it. 5) If you use mythweb, you can set jumppoints for the different keys, I set my remote up the same way to jump into the videos, live TV, pictures, the guide, etc. Hopefully some of that helps. I've got webmin installed, and setup my user to have write access, it just doesn't seem to want to work! You must have write access in the samba config file. You also need write permission from the file system for the user that you are connecting as. Please ensure that you have both. |

Thanks ![]() I'll try all this out tonight...if I get time! Right now, I think I'll try and pick up another PVR-150. Which just made me wonder...how does it switch between them...it'll keep seeing the remote connected to the first one, even if you're watching with the second tuner right? (I'd assume so...but, you never know) |

the remote isnt connected to the tuner, it controls the frontend, which inturn asks the backend to pick a tuner. |

Cool, I picked up another PVR-150 at lunch. Only a few hours until I can toss it in the box. Regarding multiple tuners, how smart is myth when you're watching TV...and a recording starts...does it just pick any tuner that's not being used? I thought a few more questions... Before I had Xine running with the plugin to allow encrypted DVDs to play, I attempted to burn a DVD...which ended up not being playable on my regular DVD player. I haven't tried since... Hopefully some of that helps. Charlie Is there a document and what I need to set them to? Like what values do what? |

mythtv is pretty smart when it comes to multiple tuners, including the ability to have different sources on different tuners, (SAT on tuner A, HD cable on tuner B) the system is smart enough to use a tuner that has the channel you requested (either live or for recording) in your 'multiple 150' box, (I assume you will simply split the cable coax and have identical sources) you really dont need to worry about what tuner is bering used. If a tuner is avalible, you can use it for Live or recording. Mythburn uses several 'external' software components, I would dig through the forum and see if others has similar issues. |

MythTV will not just grab control of a tuner and start recording when you are watching live TV. Also if it is already recording with all tuners and you try to watch live TV it wont let you. |

Yeah, I'll just split it for identical sources, it's the only source I currently have. khrusher wrote: Mythburn uses several 'external' software components, I would dig through the forum and see if others has similar issues.
Well...it was odd, because it seemed to burn...I could tell there was something on the DVD, nothing could read it though, my PC couldn't even see data on it. |

I seem to recall with one tuner if I was watching TV, and a recording came on, it kicked me from watching live tv, and recorded... ryanpatterson wrote: Also if it is already recording with all tuners and you try to watch live TV it wont let you.
This I've noticed. |

my experience is that if I am watching Live TV when a recording schedule approaches, if there are no other free tuners, I get a popup message that asks something like: Code: A recording is scheduled for this tuner, what do you want to do?
Continue watching live and skip the recoding Stop watching live and allow recording |

And my backend just crashed, tried to use mythweb...and it's down ![]() Odd...the mythbackend.log file was HUGE and filled up the / partition. |

Oh bother, I really messed things up! I put in the 2nd card. The config screen came up. I setup the Capture Card. I left the Video Sources alone. Then I setup the Input Connections...and here's where I think things started going wrong... I now, have static on Tuner 2. And lost all my channel names! To top it off, to get the backend running, ALT-3 wouldn't work, a reboot did nothing, and I had to open a terminal ALT-X and su as root, and run mythbackend and leave the screen open?!?! What did I do? |

Well, if you can get into mythweb, it's under settings -> mythtv keybindings I'm not sure how far you may have gotten with this already ![]() ![]() Also keep the last warning point in the keybindings screen in mind; you'll need to restart the frontend in order for the bindings to work (or at least I believe I had to) Charlie |
