I did the install from the examples, but DVDs still don't work. Is there something I'm missing?

What aspect of dvd playback doesn't work?
They don't even start up and show you a menu?
You can't navigate the menus?
I take it that you already saw the script inside the directory:
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples
In KnoppMyth versions R5C7 and R5D1, XINE is the default dvd player software.
I discovered some keyboard controls for XINE. Most of the controls are in the numeric keypad on the keyboard:
- the arrows in the keypad (4,8,6,2) control the dvd menu cursor,
- the keypad ENTER is the play button,
- PAGEUP and PAGEDOWN are a skip in time,
- I is the interlace control,
- P is pause,
- E is eject.
Perhaps these hints will get you going.

I thought I had posted them here, but apparently it was in another thread. I'll see if I can post them here. Yup, hence the comment about installing from the examples. Quote: In KnoppMyth versions R5C7 and R5D1, XINE is the default dvd player software. I discovered some keyboard controls for XINE. I don't even get that far. It seems to have issues finding my dvd drive.

OK, I just wondered if your problems were similar to those I had - NOPE - they're deeper!
Are you running R5B7 or R5C7 and used apt-get to install software? I was running R5C7 and used apt-get to load Firefox. It hosed up my KnoppMyth install so bad that I had to wipe it and reinstall from the cd. The same thing happened to my friend and he had to wipe and reinstall. Apt-get is dangerous in R5B7 and R5C7. If you think you have system corruption caused by apt-get, the only solution may be to reinstall.
You may want to go back to the other thread called "DVD not playing, period".
It's also a good idea to put the version of KnoppMyth you are running and the specifics of your computer system in your Profile (icon in top part of screen) so they appear in the signature line of your forum posts - these are important details for troubleshooting problems and you be asked again and again.
Good luck!

Nope, I'm runnin' R5D1. I'll see about doin' the profile thing once I get all the new hardware done up this wknd. It looks like I'm gonna have trouble with my onboard sound and video, but I've seen posts on how to fix it. Also, since I'll be usin' a pci-e card instead of onboard, hopefully I'll avoid the video problem.

Another person a little while ago was having a similar problem and I remember telling them how to troubleshoot the problem by running xine from a command line. I don't remember the post exactly but if you do a search there is plenty of info around.
