After the reinstall of the new KnoppMyth version, whenever I try to Rip a DVD to my Mythbox it works, but with caveats:
1. Sometimes, it will rip it (in perfect) but will be missing a bunch in the middle.
2. All the time, the movie, when info is pressed, shows as being 14 or 20 or even 4 minutes, as opposed to 120 minutes, but if I let it play (and do not fast forward) it will play the whole movie. However, when it gets past that 14 minute mark, it will keep playing, but I can not fast forward any longer.

Creating an ISO works fine.

I have not tried making a less than perfect copy.

Has anyone seen this? I have searched for similar issues here and elsewhere and have not found any. Perhaps my search terms are not what I need.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Pacer

Here are some of the things I have found upon further investigation:

1. Mplayer is the default player (not xine)
2. "Perfect" DVD rips are put into VOB format by default.
3. ISO Rips are made into ISOs.
4. "Excellent" rips are put into AVI format by default.

Additionally, under the video settings (Utilities / Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Media Settings -> Videos Settings) you can change the default player/

By default (at least on my install with no changes), mplayer is the defaultp layer (with some further strings attached to it).

Under Utilities / Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Media Settings -> Videos Settings -> File Types:

1. VOBs are played, not by the default player (which is unchecked) but by the option "Internal" in the "Command:" box.
2. So are some other file types, including "ISO"s (but not "old ISOs").
3. AVIs played by the default.

I did an "excellent" rip of a DVD and it seemed to work without a problem. If I change the player from the default to "internal," it sees the entire length of the movie.

I am beginning to suspect that something with my ripping the DVD into a VOB is creating an issue.

Before I go digging around anymore, anyone have an idea where I can look to change this?

Sincerely,
Pacer

Pacer,

I have had a few problems with "perfect" rips (VOB files) played back with the internal player:

1. The internal player does not report the video length correctly.
2. The internal player does not allow me to rewind or fast forward, instead it exits back to the video gallery.

Thanks for posting a good bit of detail. I had not realized that VOB files were being played by the Internal player under Utilities / Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Media Settings -> Videos Settings -> File Types. When I changed the VOB playback setting to use the default (mplayer), things worked well once I included the "-ao oss" option. Without that option, mplayer would just hang. Since I don't keep my rips after I watch them, I prefer to keep the "perfect" format, as it preserves all subtitle and audio channel information.

Unfortunately, I can't really help you out in terms of getting the internal player working with VOB files.
