I am a newbie who is trying to decide what pvr to build myself. I have two questions is there any place on the internet where there is instructions that build a server for the knoppmyth and install the backend suggesting what hardware will easily install and then build a frontend solution and install the knoppmyth front end. A step by step building the frontend solutions??

Also more importantly I have a house and a camp. They both have broadband internet connections. I would like to have the bankend server at my house and a frontend at the camp and access the connect at the bankend over the internet. Can this be done has anyone ever set this up??

This is a good guide on frontends

I have never personally tried a frontend on a diffrent LAN.
It is possible if you have high upload from your backend and high download from your remote frontend.
Practical?

You have to remeber that recording from a PVR hardware card such as PVR-150 run 2GB per hour, HDTV is even more. Live TV is same size so would be streaming a lot of info over the internet.

Depends on your needs too how you plan to use. If you plan on using for Live TV is going to be tougher (not impossible). If you just want to access your backend recordings from your vacation home there are ways to get it working. Rsync & Cron comes to mind, rsyncing the /myth/tv and /myth/video directories between locations.
Running post recording scripts to cut down on recording size may be helpful too, such as something like this.

Maybe playing around with recording profiles to lessen quality may get better size.

There is also MythstreamTV which allows you to stream recordings from MythWeb over a web browser.

I personally think it can be done and wish you luck. May just have to be flexible a little on either quality, setup complexity, or ISP costs.

Yeah, it can be done. Have I done it, no. Keep in minf, due to performance reasons, MythTV isn't designed w/ security it mind. Also, having a frontend and backend connected via the Internet will require a lot of bandwidth...
